BOSTON, Mass. -- The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) honored 618 student athletes from 14 institutions on its 2011-2012 All-Academic Team announced this afternoon. Forty-five Simmons athletes received the honor, with representation from all eight varsity programs sponsored by the GNAC.

LOUIS, MO -- Volleyball sophomore Nafeesa Connolly (Natick, Mass.) represented Simmons, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III athletics today at the annual College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) convention in St. Louis, Missouri on a panel titled, “Serving Student-Athletes: Are we getting it right?”
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Simmons Head Volleyball Coach Alesia Vaccari was named a Thirty Under 30 award recipient by the American Volleyball Coaches Association Thursday. The award was created in 2009 to honor up-and-coming coaching talent across all levels of the sport of volleyball. To be eligible for the award, nominees had to be 30 years old or younger in 2011.
BOSTON, Mass. -- Last month, Simmons sophomore Nafeesa Connolly (Natick, Mass.) attended the NCAA National Convention held in Indianapolis, Ind., where she represented Simmons, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) as a National Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) member. SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) was selected as one of New England’s top 33 Division III senior volleyball players announced by the New England Women’s Volleyball Association (NEWVA) Tuesday afternoon. Flynn will compete in the 2011 NEWVA Senior Classic on December 4th, at the University of Massachusetts-Boston.

The Lions defeated the Sharks in four, with scores of 25-15, 25-16, 24-26 and 25-15. The win puts the Lions in the GNAC Finals where they'll face the Rivier Raiders.
BOSTON, Mass. -- The #4 ranked Simmons Volleyball team defeated the #5 Norwich University Cadets 3-2 (21-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-20, 15-11), Tuesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference quarterfinal action. The Sharks dropped the first two games but fought hard in the third game, edging out a 26-24 victory before finding their rhythm in the final games. Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) finished with a 0.389 hitting percentage for the evening, a season’s best.
Simmons Volleyball is ranked #4 as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced the Playoff schedule today. The Sharks, who finished the regular season with a conference record of 9-4 and an overall record of 19-9 will host #5 Norwich University (8-5, 16-9), on Tuesday, November 1st at 7:00 p.m.

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer College volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep against Simmons in non-conference action on Thursday evening. The Chargers won by scores of 25-18, 25-22, and 27-25. Colby-Sawyer, who donned pink jerseys in support of the cure for breast cancer, evens its record to 14-14, while Simmons drops to 16-7.

The appointment to the National Committee is a first for Simmons.
BOSTON, Mass. – Simmons Volleyball won the first game but were tripped up by crosstown rival Emmanuel College Saints 4-1 (20-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-20), in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Tuesday night. The Sharks won the match in four sets, (15-25, 16-25, 31-29, 10-25) as the Lions, who started the season hot, have dropped their last eight contests, struggled to find their offensive flow.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Simmons Sharks remained undefeated in conference play Saturday as they swept GNAC conference rivals Albertus Magnus and Anna Maria in women’s volleyball action at the Albertus Magnus Tri-Match. Simmons Volleyball took all three games to defeat Newbury College Nighthawks at the Holmes Sports Center on a rainy Tuesday evening. Simmons was led by senior Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) who had 15 Kills, 8 Service Aces, and 13 Digs on the evening.
WENHAM, Mass. – Simmons Volleyball competed in the Gordon Invitational Saturday, defeating Bay Path College and Framingham State College 3-0, and fell only to the Fighting Scots in a hard fought three games to two.
The Simmons Volleyball team won three straight games to beat the Bay Path Wildcats in their 2011 season opener at the Holmes Sports Center at Simmons College on Thursday (Sept. 1) evening.
