Sharks Volleyball Splits at MIT Tri-Match

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. ? Simmons Volleyball went 1-1 on the weekend at the MIT Tri-Match, where they played non-conference Clark University and host MIT. The Sharks defeated Clark University, 3-2 (25-23, 15-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-6) in the most back and forth match of the weekend. Senior Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) put away 23 kills to help Simmons (8-2) put away Clark in five sets. Setter Rachel Dufault (Westport, Mass.) also had a strong outing for the Sharks, handing out 44 assists and serving up five aces.

Kortney Kelly (Barnstable, Mass.) led the way defensively for Clark, recording 36 digs in the match. Amira Tranchell (Falmouth, Mass.) had a solid all-around game for the Cougars, putting away 13 kills while recording seven blocks. Setter Rachel Spera (North Hollywood, Calif.) had 30 assists.

In the second match of the day, MIT defeated the Sharks, 3-1 (28-26, 22-25, 25-13, 25-15) in a hard fought match. "Our team came out strong in the fifth game and worked well as a team. The match was great preparation for our tough upcoming conference play," said Coach Vaccari.

Simmons moved to 8-2 on the season, while Clark fell to 4-4 and MIT remained undefeated at 11-0. The Sharks host Bridgewater State on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Holmes Sports Center.
