Simmons Splits at Johnson & Wales Tri-Match

BOSTON, Mass. ? Simmons Volleyball hosted a tri-match with Great Northeast Athletic Conference rivals Saint Joseph?s College (Maine) Monks and the Lasell College Lasers on Saturday at the Holmes Sports Center.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- In the middle match of the day, Simmons had the 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 27-25) victory against St. Joseph. Simmons was led by senior Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) with 17 kills and 15 digs. Flynn recorded the 1,000th kill of her career in the win for the Sharks.

Junior Rachel Dufault (Westport, Mass.) added 35 set assists and 16 digs in the win for Simmons. Patrizi once again paced St. Joseph of Conn., with seven kills, 14 set assists and 7 digs while Dondero narrowly missed a double-double with nine kills and 11 digs in the loss for the Blue Jays.

JWU wrapped up the afternoon with a 3-1 (30-32, 25-15, 25-22, 25-20) victory against Simmons. Warren once again paced JWU with 17 kills and five digs while Drapeau had seven kills, 28 set assists and seven digs for the Wildcats. Leahy recorded 12 kills and five blocks in the victory. Flynn recorded 21 kills for the Sharks and Rossi Fish (N. Attleboro, Mass.) posted a 0.263 hitting percentage.

With the sweep Johnson & Wales is now 10-24 on the season and 8-5 in the GNAC. Simmons is now 19-9, 9-4 in the GNAC while St. Joseph of Connecticut is 9-19 overall and 3-11 in league play. The Sharks will return to action on Tuesday, November 1st in a quarterfinals match of the 211 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship. An opponent has yet to be determined.
