Sharks Volleyball Trips up Gators for Win

BOSTON, Mass. ? The Simmons Volleyball team defeated the Pine Manor College Gators 3-1 (25-20, 25-14, 25-27, 25-19) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play Tuesday evening as the Sharks celebrated the team?s four seniors on senior night.

BOSTON, Mass. -- The #4 ranked Simmons Volleyball team defeated the #5 Norwich University Cadets 3-2 (21-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-20, 15-11), Tuesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference quarterfinal action. The Sharks dropped the first two games but fought hard in the third game, edging out a 26-24 victory before finding their rhythm in the final games. Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) finished with a 0.389 hitting percentage for the evening, a season?s best.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons Volleyball team defeated the Pine Manor College Gators 3-1 (25-20, 25-14, 25-27, 25-19) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play Tuesday evening as the Sharks celebrated the team's four seniors on senior night.

The Sharks dominated the first game but the Gators kept it close when it counted. Simmons was lead by senior Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) who tallied 13 kills on 31 attempts. Taylor Nisbet (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) each added nine and eight kills, respectively.

The second game was all Sharks, going up 10-0 before the Gators found a hole. Simmons' defense stepped up big with Kina Wilbur Kamien (Salem, N.H.) posting 14 digs and Last adding 17 more. Pine Manor came back to within nine with a solid performance by Alie Johnston and Jennifer Gross, but it was not enough as the Sharks rolled 2-0.

Feeling the urgency, the Gators found their rhythm in the third game, as the teams went one for one in a nail biter to the end. Amy Keokanlaya recorded 14 digs for the Gators, keeping the Sharks from running away with the sweep.

Rossi Fish (Attleboro, Mass.) lead the Sharks in the fourth game with a 0.389 hitting percentage as Simmons came back to win, 25-19. She recorded a well-timed kill off a perfect feed from Morgan Powell (Orange, Mass.) to set the Sharks on a streak. With the win the Sharks move to 18-8 on the season while the Gators fall to 14-7.

Simmons returns to action on Saturday, October 29th when they travel to Johnson and Wales University for a tri-match with Saint Joseph College (Conn.) The Gators host Lasell College on the same date at 11:00 a.m.
