Vaccari Named Coach of the Year, Two Sharks Honored by GNAC

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Volleyball head coach Alesia Vaccari was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Volleyball Coach of the Year in her first season as a head coach as the GNAC announced its All-Conference Teams selections Tuesday.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Volleyball head coach Alesia Vaccari was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Volleyball Coach of the Year in her first season as a head coach as the GNAC announced its All-Conference Teams selections Tuesday.

Vaccari lead the Sharks to the GNAC Semifinals for the first time in program history, finishing with a 20-10 overall record and 9-4 in conference play. Under her direction, the Sharks more than doubled their win percentage from last season without any additions to the roster.

Simmons senior Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) was named to the All-Conference First Team, All-Conference Sportsmanship Team, and the 2011 All-Tournament Team after an outstanding year on the court. Flynn recorded 403 kills, averaging 4.03 per set and hitting a 0.256 for the year, while also putting up 65 service aces. Flynn reached the 1,000th career kill milestone on October 29th to complete a stellar campaign for the Sharks.

Junior setter Rachel Dufault (Westport, Mass.) was named to the All-Conference Third Team after playing in every set for the Sharks this season. Dufault recorded 809 assists, averaging 7.63 per set and was second on the team in service aces with 60.

The Sharks ranked first in the GNAC in blocks per set and services aces per set, second in kills per set, and third in digs per set in the GNAC. Flynn is second in the conference in kills per set at 3.91, while junior Caroline Boyd (Wilbraham, Mass.) is ranked first for blocks per set, averaging 1.09.

The #4 ranked Sharks fell to #1 Emerson on Tuesday, November 1st to end their most successful season to date.
