Sharks Split at Mount Ida Tri-Match

WORCESTER, Mass. ? Simmons senior Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) recorded team-high totals of nine kills, 33 digs and three service aces to help lead the Sharks to a 3-1 triumph over Worcester State in non-conference women?s volleyball action this evening at the Lancer Gymnasium.

NEWTON, Mass. ? The Sharks defeated Mount Ida College Mustangs 3-2 in their opening matching at a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match on Saturday afternoon. Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) lead the sharks with 16 kills and 24 digs. Junior Rachel Dufault (Westport, Mass.) added 35 assists and 19 digs, while Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) was a force on defense with 26 digs.

Simmons Volleyball is ranked #4 as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced the Playoff schedule today. The Sharks, who finished the regular season with a conference record of 9-4 and an overall record of 19-9 will host #5 Norwich University (8-5, 16-9), on Tuesday, November 1st at 7:00 p.m.

In the second match, visiting Simmons College took on the Raiders falling 3-1 by scores of 25-16, 25-14, 19-25 and 25-15 Saturday afternoon at Mount Ida College in Newton, Massachusetts.

The Sharks fall to an overall record of 16-8 dropping to 6-3 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. The Raiders leave Mount Ida with two wins improving to 16-13 and a near perfect 12-1 league slate.

Simmons was led offensively by Flynn with 10 kills also adding two service aces. Shark junior Last chipped in 12 digs while Dufault dished out 19 assists.

The Raiders were again led by hard hitting junior Kenna Finlayson (Derry, N.H.) with an impressive 22 kills as well as a team high 12 digs and five service aces. Senior Lauren Saccoccio (Warwick, R.I.) handed out 40 assists.

The Sharks return to action on Tuesday when they host Pine Manor College at 7:00 p.m. for their last home match.
