Sharks Sweep Tri-Match To Remain Undefeated in GNAC

BOSTON, Mass. ? Simmons Volleyball hosted a tri-match with Great Northeast Athletic Conference rivals Saint Joseph?s College (Maine) Monks and the Lasell College Lasers on Saturday at the Holmes Sports Center.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- In the middle match of the day, Simmons had the 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 27-25) victory against St. Joseph. Simmons was led by senior Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) with 17 kills and 15 digs. Flynn recorded the 1,000th kill of her career in the win for the Sharks.

BOSTON, Mass. – Simmons Volleyball hosted a tri-match with Great Northeast Athletic Conference rivals Saint Joseph's College (Maine) Monks and the Lasell College Lasers on Saturday at the Holmes Sports Center.

The Sharks did not drop a game in a sweep of the Monks 3-0, with scores of 25-22, 25-22, and 25-23 and later were victorious over the Lasers 3-0, with scores of 25-18, 25-21, and 25-22. Simmons moves to 6-0 in the GNAC (13-4 overall) with the wins while the Monks move to 11-4 (4-2 GNAC) and the Lasers fall to 7-10 overall and 1-3 in the GNAC.

The Sharks took on the undefeated Monks at 11:00 a.m. for an epic three game match. Junior Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) fed the Sharks' offense with seven kills while Rossi Fish (Attleboro, Mass.) hit .417 percent with six kills on 12 attempts. Down by six in the third game, the Sharks defense took charge, with sophomore Sandy Lor (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Last combining for 29 digs. Rachel Dufault (Westport, Mass.) added 27 assists to come back and secure the win.

In the second match of the day, the Monks and Lasers battled through five games before the Monks finally claimed the victory, 3-2 with scores of 26-24, 21-25, 20-25, 25-21, 15-8.

In the final match, the Sharks were led by senior Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) who posted 15 kills and 17 digs. Lor paced the Simmons defense with 17 digs while Last and Megan Chamberlin (Milford, Mass.) also recorded double digit digs for the Sharks. Fish was outstanding at the net with five solo blocks to increase the Sharks lead.

Lasers sophomore Sara Biondo (Coventry, R.I.) paced the team with eight kills on 29 attempts while Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, Maine) added five kills and 12 digs.


The Sharks travel to Worcester State for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, October 4th at 6:00 p.m. The Monks host Southern Maine on Thursday, October 6th for a 7:00 p.m. game, while the Lasers host Salve Regina at 7:00 p.m. also on Thursday.
