Simmons Volleyball Trumps Buccaneers 3-0

The Simmons Volleyball team won three straight games to beat the Bay Path Wildcats in their 2011 season opener at the Holmes Sports Center at Simmons College on Thursday (Sept. 1) evening.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons Volleyball team defeated the Massachusetts Maritime Buccaneers 3-0 on Thursday evening at the Holmes Sports Center in Boston, Mass. The win marks a four-match winning streak for the Sharks who move to 7-1 on the season.

Led by Senior Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.), the Sharks took control early, winning the first game 25-7. Flynn and sophomore Rossi Fish (Attleboro, Mass.) each posted seven Kills while Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) added five. The Simmons offense was dominant, defeating the Buccaneers 25-6, and 25-9 in the second and third games for the sweep. Junior Rachel Dufault (Westport, Mass.) added 24 assists and three solo blocks to solidify the win for the Sharks.

Mass Maritime freshman Kelsey Pelletier (Bristol, Conn.) registered three kills in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (0-9), who also received 10 digs from junior Alex Burgess-Chrost (Leominster, Mass.) and eight set assists from freshman Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.).

Simmons Volleyball travels to MIT for a tri-match on Saturday, September 17th at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The Buccaneers head to Throggs Neck, N.Y. on Saturday evening to take on New York Maritime in opening round play of the Second Annual Maritime Classic that begins at 7:00 p.m.
