Sharks Edged by Corsairs in Fifth Game

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass ? Simmons Volleyball fell to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team after the Corsairs rallied in the fifth game to win, 25-19, 25-21, 17-25, 20-25 and 15-12, in a non-conference match at the Tripp Athletic Center Tuesday evening.

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass – Simmons Volleyball fell to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's volleyball team after the Corsairs rallied in the fifth game to win, 25-19, 25-21, 17-25, 20-25 and 15-12, in a non-conference match at the Tripp Athletic Center Tuesday evening.

After losing the first two games, the Sharks came back to win the next two, sending the match to a fifth game. The Sharks were up 3-0, in the fifth game before the Corsairs recovered for the win.

Simmons senior outside hitter Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) led the Sharks with 22 kills and 18 digs. Junior Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) added 10 kills and recorded 13 digs while sophomore Sandy Lor (Fitchburg, Mass.) was stellar on defense with 32 digs. Setter Rachel Dufault (Westport, Mass.) posted 47 assists for the Sharks.

Junior setter Jess Goncalves (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) had 31 assists and 12 digs for UMass Dartmouth. Senior outside hitter Allie Mastrocola (Swansea, MA/Case HS) led the Corsairs with 16 kills, while senior middle blocker Cami Ascher (Natick, MA/Natick HS) added 12. Senior libero Shannon Brodie (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) led the defensive effort with 13 digs.

The Sharks fell to 11-3 with the defeat, while the Corsairs improved to 9-4. Simmons will host Southern Vermont Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the Holmes Sports Center.
