  • Grandpre Named GNAC Women's Volleyball Coach of the Year; Iannantuono Tabbed Top Rookie; Weeg Named First Team, Fortune, Gray-Williams, Lauvray Selected Second Team

    WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons University’s Scott Grandpre (East Greenwich, R.I.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women’s Volleyball Coach of the Year, while Sydney Iannantuono (East Lyme, Conn.) was selected the Rookie of the Year. Junior Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) was tabbed to the First Team and Amanda Fortune (Round Rock, Texas), Faith Gray-Williams (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Morgan Lauvray (Murrieta, Calif.) were all chosen to the Second Team, it was announced today by the league. In addition, first year Grace Pontius (Underhill, Vt.) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team. 
  • Volleyball Edged by Rivier, 3-2, in GNAC Tournament Semifinals

    BOSTON, Mass. -- The second-seeded Simmons University women's volleyball team won the opening two sets, but was unable to close out the match, falling to number three seed Rivier University, 3-2 (20-25, 14-25, 25-19, 26-24, 15-11) this evening in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship Tournament Semifinals at Moore Gymnasium in Boston, Mass. The Sharks finish their season at 19-9, while the Raiders win their seventh straight match and improve to 24-7 to advance to the GNAC Championship match at 3:00 p.m. on November 9. They will take on top-seeded Johnson & Wales University, a 3-0 winner over fourth seed Suffolk University, for the second straight year.

    BOSTON, Mass. – Junior outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) put down 15 kills and junior setter Faith Gray-Williams (Las Vegas, Nev.) averaged over 12 assists per set to lead the second-seeded Simmons University women’s volleyball team over visiting seventh-seeded Saint Joseph’s College (Maine), 3-0, (25-9, 25-17, 25-22) this evening in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship Tournament Quarterfinals at Moore Gymnasium in Boston, Mass. The Sharks win their third straight match and five of their last six to improve to 19-8 on the season, while the Monks close out their campaign at 8-22.

    BOSTON, Mass. -- Junior outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) put down 10 kills and sophomore middle blocker Amanda Fortune (Round Rock, Texas) hit .600 and recorded six kills to lead the Simmons University women's volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-19) victory over host Suffolk University today in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court in Boston, Mass. The Sharks improve to 17-8 overall, including 10-1 in league play, while the Rams fall to 18-11 and 8-3.

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Junior outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) became Simmons University women's volleyball career kill leader on a day that saw her record 32 kills in a tri-match split, helping the Sharks defeat Westfield State University (3-2; 25-18, 25-14, 14-25, 22-25, 15-10), before falling to host Massachusetts Institute of Technology (3-0; 25-22, 25-17, 25-12) this afternoon at Rockwell Cage in Cambridge, Mass. The Sharks are now 15-8 on the season, while MIT improves to 21-7 and Westfield dips to 11-15.

The Sharks fall to 14-7 on the season, while the Lions win their third in a row and eight of their last nine to improve to 14-5.

The Sharks have won nine of their last 11 matches and improve to 11-5 overall, including 5-1 in league play, while the Raiders fall to 13-4 and 2-1.

The Sharks have won four of their last five and eight of their last 10 to improve to 10-5 on the season, including 4-1 in league play, while the Blue Jays fall to 6-8 and 0-5.

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Simmons University women's volleyball team was defeated in three sets by number 15 Johnson & Wales University, 25-22, 25-22, 25-20, this evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at the Wildcat Center in Providence, R.I. The Sharks win streak comes to an end at three straight as they fall to 9-5 overall and suffer their first conference loss to dip to 3-1. The Wildcats, who are ranked nationally by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, improve to 12-3 and a perfect 3-0 in the GNAC.

    NEW LONDON, N.H. -- Junior outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) put down 13 kills and the Simmons University women's volleyball team fired 19 aces in a 3-1 (25-13, 25-20, 20-25, 25-14) victory over host Colby-Sawyer College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action this afternoon at the Hogan Sports Center in New London, N.H. The Sharks win their third in a row and seventh of their last eight to improve to 9-4 overall for their best start since going 11-2 to begin the 2011 campaign. Simmons is also a perfect 3-0 in league play, while the Chargers fall to 8-10 and 1-2.

Lauvray becomes the first Shark to earn the award since teammate Julia Fusco (Beverly, Mass.) was honored for the week of October 9-15, 2017.

    BOSTON, Mass. – Junior outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) spiked for 29 kills and junior setter Faith Gray-Williams (Las Vegas, Nev.) averaged 11.8 assists to lead the Simmons University women’s volleyball team in a sweep over visiting Lasell University (3-0; 25-23, 25-16, 25-20) and Regis College (Mass.) (3-0; 25-3, 25-20, 25-14) this afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Moore Gymnasium in Boston, Mass. Lasell came away with a 3-2 (25-22, 10-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-12) victory over Regis in the afternoon’s middle match. The Sharks have won eight of their last 10 matches and improve to 8-4 overall, including 2-0 in league play, while the Lasers are now 4-8 and 2-2 and the Pride fall to 3-9 and 0-2.

Stewart Center for Student Activities in Morrisville, N.Y. The Sharks fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Golden Tornadoes improve to 2-0.
