Weeg, Fortune Lead Volleyball over SUNY Poly, 3-1

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. -- Junior outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) (12) and sophomore middle blocker Amanda Fortune (Round Rock, Texas) (10) combined for 22 kills to lead the Simmons University women's volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-15, 25-16) victory over State University of New York Polytechnic Institute this morning on the second day of the Morrisville State College tournament at the John W. Stewart Center for Student Activities in Morrisville, N.Y. The Sharks improve to 1-2 on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 0-3.

The teams traded sets to open the match, before Simmons dominated the final two frames, 25-15, 25-16.

Weeg put down 12 kills and added five digs and three block assists for the Sharks, while Fortune hit .318 for the match and swung for 10 kills to go with two aces, seven total blocks and a dig. First year outside hitter Sydney Iannantuono (East Lyme, Conn.) contributed with eight kills and three digs and junior setter Faith Gray-Williams (Las Vegas, Nev.) posted her third straight double-double with 38 assists and 10 digs in addition to two aces and five block assists. Junior libero Morgan Lauvray (Murrieta, Calif.) anchored the defense with 15 digs.

Simmons returns to action later in the afternoon against Cedar Crest College at 2:00 p.m.
