WINTRHOP, Mass. – Simmons University women's volleyball player Morgan Lauvray (Murrieta, Calif.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Libero of the Week for the week of October 7-13, it was announced today by the league.
Lauvray earns the honor for the third time this season to tie for the most in the conference. She was previously tabbed for the weeks of September 16-22 and September 23-29. Lauvray becomes the first player in school history to receive the award three times.
The junior was a dual threat for the Sharks in four matches last week, averaging 4.27 digs and 0.73 aces per set over 15 frames, while owning a stellar .980 serve reception success rate after committing just one miscue in 50 serves received to help Simmons to a 3-1 week. The libero picked up 16 or more digs in three of four outings, while firing three or more aces on three occasions. Lauvray began the week with 16 digs in just three sets vs. Rivier University and added three aces on October 9. She came back the next night to get down for 21 digs in four sets at Wheaton College (Mass.). The Vista Murrieta High School product closed out the week with 20 digs and four aces at Norwich University in five sets on October 12 and scooped up seven digs to go with four more aces vs. Albertus Magnus College on the same day.
For the season, Lauvray has seen action in 72 sets over 19 matches, while averaging 4.65 digs and 0.53 aces per set to rank third and 12th among GNAC leaders, respectively. A former member and MVP with Forza 1 Volleyball, the Political Science major has posted double-digit dig totals in all but one match, including 20 or more seven times. She registered a career-high of 29 vs. Wentworth Institute of Technology on September 5. The defender has been an offensive threat from behind the service line all season for the Sharks, firing multiple aces in nine outings, including a career-best showing of six in three sets vs. Regis College (Mass.) on September 21.
The West Coast native has played in 273 sets over 78 matches, while picking up 691 digs for 2.53 per set to go with 82 aces for a rate of 0.30 per frame.
Simmons is currently 13-6 on the season, including 7-1 in league play to sit second in the conference standings. The Sharks are off to their best start since a 15-4 beginning in 2011 and return to action on Wednesday, October 16 when they host GNAC foe Anna Maria College at 7:00 p.m. at Moore Gymnasium.
