Weeg Leads Volleyball and Becomes Career Kills Leader in Tri-Match Split with Westfield State (3-2) and MIT (0-3)

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Junior outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) became Simmons University women's volleyball career kill leader on a day that saw her record 32 kills in a tri-match split, helping the Sharks defeat Westfield State University (3-2; 25-18, 25-14, 14-25, 22-25, 15-10), before falling to host Massachusetts Institute of Technology (3-0; 25-22, 25-17, 25-12) this afternoon at Rockwell Cage in Cambridge, Mass. The Sharks are now 15-8 on the season, while MIT improves to 21-7 and Westfield dips to 11-15.

Weeg's third kill of the day came early in the second set vs. Westfield State to give her 1060 career kills to eclipse the former Simmons school mark held by Meaghan Flynn (2008-11). Weeg finished the afternoon with 1089 for her career as the current all-time leader. She put down 21 kills and added six digs and a block assist vs. Westifield State and added 11 kills and a dig vs. MIT. Junior middle blocker Megan Purser (Miami, Fla.) swung for 11 kills on a .250 hitting percentage for the Sharks and added three digs and four block assists vs. Westfield State. Sophomore middle blocker Amanda Fortune (Round Rock, Texas) also put down double-digit kills against the Owls with 10 on a torrid .529 hitting clip to go with two digs and a pair of block assists. First year outside hitter Sydney Iannantuono (East Lyme, Conn.) nearly posted a double-double with nine kills and 17 digs and junior setter Faith Gray-Williams (Las Vegas, Nev.) directed the offense with 48 assists and added 15 digs for a double-double. Junior libero Morgan Lauvray (Murrieta, Calif.) anchored the defense with 27 digs.

Iannantuono also spiked for 10 kills on a .250 hitting mark against MIT for Simmons, while Gray-Williams set for 23 assists and picked up nine digs. Lauvray scooped up eight digs and added an ace. First year defensive specialist Gabriel Hernandez (San Francisco, Calif.) fired three aces in each match to give her six for the day to go with eight digs.

The Sharks return to action on Saturday, November 2 when they head across the city to take on host Suffolk University and Saint Joseph's College (Maine) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match at 11:00 a.m.
