MORRISVILLE, N.Y. -- Junior outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) swung for a match-high 20 kills to lead the Simmons University women's volleyball team in a 3-2 (22-25, 23-25, 25-20, 26-24, 16-14) loss to Geneva College this evening at the Morrisville State College Tournament at the John W. Stewart Center for Student Activities in Morrisville, N.Y. The Sharks fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Golden Tornadoes improve to 2-0.

For the second straight match, Simmons put away the first two sets, but were unable to win a third set to gain the victory. The Sharks hung on for 25-22 and 25-23 wins in the first and second frames, respectively, before Geneva came back with 25-20 and 26-24 wins in the next two sets. The teams went down to the wire with the Golden Tornadoes pulling out a 16-14 victory in the deciding set.

Weeg spiked for 20 kills to go with two digs and a block assist for Simmons, while sophomore middle blocker Amanda Fortune (Round Rock, Texas) put down 13 kills on a .407 hitting percentage in addition to four block assists, a pair of digs and a service ace. Sophomore right side hitter Krissy Lloyd (Tampa, Fla.) and first year outside hitter Sydney Iannantuono (East Lyme, Conn.) each registered double-digit kills with 11 and 10, respectively. Iannantuono also added 14 digs for her first collegiate double-double. Junior setter Faith Gray-Williams (Las Vegas, Nev.) set for 50-plus assists for the second straight match with 53 and added 13 digs for her second double-double in as many contests to go with three block assists and an ace. Junior Morgan Lauvray (Murrieta, Calif.) picked up 22 digs and fired three aces.

The Sharks return to the court tomorrow when they take on State University of New York Polytechnic Institute at 10:00 a.m.
