Lloyd, Iannantuono Lead Volleyball over Saint Joseph (Conn.), 3-1

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- First year outside hitter Sydney Iannantuono (East Lyme, Conn.) (13) and sophomore middle blocker Krissy Lloyd (Tampa, Fla.) (12) combined for 25 kills to lead the Simmons University women's volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-13, 25-13, 27-29, 26-24) victory over host University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) this afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match in West Hartford, Conn. The Sharks have won four of their last five and eight of their last 10 to improve to 10-5 on the season, including 4-1 in league play, while the Blue Jays fall to 6-8 and 0-5.

Simmons finished the day with a .227 hitting percentage, including a staggering .500 in the opening set. 

Lloyd fueled the Sharks hitting prowess with a .500 mark with just one error and 12 kills to go with a pair of block assists, while Iannantuono put down 13 kills and hit. 263 in addition to picking up five digs and firing an ace. Junior outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) swung for 10 kills, picked up three digs and registered a block assist and junior middle blocker Megan Purser (Miami, Fla.) contributed with nine kills, two block assists and a dig. Junior setter Faith-Gray Williams (Las Vegas, Nev.) set for 33 assists, got down for eight digs and fired a match-high four aces, while junior libero Morgan Lauvray (Murrieta, Calif.) recorded 17 digs and an ace. 

First year middle hitter Shannon Carey (Bayport, N.Y.) led all players for Saint Joseph with 19 kills and added 12 digs for a double-double, while sophomore outside hitter Hannah Benson (Terryville, Conn.) put down 14 kills to go with a match-best 19 digs and an ace. first year setter Nyah Young (Swansea, Maine) directed the Blue Jays offense with 23 assists in addition to picking up 12 digs and serving up an ace. 

Simmons returns to the court on Wednesday, October 9 when it hosts GNAC foe Rivier University at Moore Gymnasium for a 7:00 p.m. tilt and Saint Joseph heads to Paxton, Mass. on the same night to take on Anna Maria College in GNAC play at 7:00 p.m.
