  • Sharks Earn 2008-09 GNAC Academic All-Conference Honors

    The Great Northeast Athletic Conference recognized 501 student-athletes from 15 league sports on the 2009 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team.
  • Freshman Outside Hitter Makes History for Simmons Volleyball

    After winning the most games in Simmons Volleyball history the Sharks volleyball program has made history yet again. Conference officials announced this week that freshman outside hitter Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and was selected to the All-Conference Second Team, marking the first time in program history that a player has claimed GNAC Rookie of the Year honors. Sophomore middle hitter Shamika Johnson (Springfield, Mass.) was selected as Simmons’ Sportsmanship Award honoree.
  • Volleyball 2008 Season In Review

    Simmons Volleyball closed out the 2008 season with a 13-11 overall record, and a 6-6 mark in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. This was a complete turnaround for second-year Head Coach Jason Conetta’s Sharks, whose overall record at the close of 2007 was 8-14. Simmons entered the 2008 GNAC tournament as 7th seed, the program’s highest ranking and first winning season since 1999.
  • Volleyball Falls to Johnson & Wales, 3-0 in Conference Quarterfinals

    The Simmons College volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision, by scores of 25-10, 25-13 and 25-22 to GNAC front-runner Johnson & Wales at the Harborside Recreation Center on Tuesday evening in the conference quarterfinals. With the loss, the Sharks finish the season with a 13-12 overall record, GNAC 6-6, while the Wildcats improve to 25-12, GNAC 11-1 and advance to the conference semifinals to face Emerson.
  • Flynn Named to GNAC Weekly Honor Roll

    Simmons College freshman Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week of October 12, the GNAC announced on Wednesday. Flynn had outstanding performances in games last week against Lesley University and Emerson College.
  • Simmons Drops Five-Game Match To Emerson, 3-2

    Freshman Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) recorded a team-high 12 kills, but it was not enough as the Simmons volleyball team fell to Emerson, 3-2, by scores of 22-25, 25-20, 11-25, 25-12 and 15-7 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Sharks fall to 11-7 overall, GNAC, 4-3, while the Lions improve to 13-8 overall, GNAC 6-1.
  • Volleyball Downs Lesley, 3-2

    Freshmen Kate Fionte (Andover, Mass.) and Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) each registered double-doubles as the Simmons volleyball team extended their win streak to five, defeating Lesley, 3-2, by scores of 25-16, 25-27, 18-25, 25-12 and 15-11 in non-conference action, on Wednesday night at the Holmes Sports Center. With the win, the Sharks improve to an 11-6 overall record, while the Lynx fall to 4-9.
  • Flynn Named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll

    Freshman volleyball player Meaghan Flynn was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week of Oct. 6. She helped the Sharks to a 3-0, GNAC 2-0 record with wins over Newbury, Albertus Magnus and Pine Manor.
  • Sharks Sweep Tri-Match With Albertus Magnus and Pine Manor

    Freshman outside hitter Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) recorded a combined 24 kills, 16 service aces and 15 digs in two matches as the Simmons volleyball team defeated conference foes Albertus Magnus, 3-0, by scores of 25-23, 25-13 and 25-10, and Pine Manor, 3-0, by scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-18 on Sunday afternoon in New Haven, Conn. at the Cosgrove Athletic Center. The Sharks improve to 10-6, GNAC 4-2.
  • Simmons Volleyball Defeats Newbury, 3-0

    Freshman outside hitter Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) recorded seven kills, six digs and three service aces, lifting the Sharks volleyball program over Newbury, 3-0, by scores of 25-15, 25-12 and 25-15 on Wednesday night at Pappas Gymnasium. With the win, the Sharks improve to 8-6 overall, while the Nighthawks fall to 3-14 overall.
  • Volleyball Tops Mount Ida, 3-2

    Junior Amanda Weaver (Eaton, Ohio) recorded her thirteenth straight match with double digit assists as the Simmons College volleyball team defeated Mount Ida, 3-2, by scores of 25-18, 17-25, 13-25, 25-22 and 15-13, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play, on Saturday afternoon at the Holmes Sports Center. With the win, the Sharks improve to 7-6 (GNAC, 2-2), while the Mustangs fall to 9-9 (GNAC, 2-2).

    Junior setter Amanda Weaver (Eaton, Ohio) and freshman Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) led the way with 21 assists and 13 kills, respectively, but it was not enough as the Simmons volleyball team fell to Johnson and Wales, 3-0, by scores of 25-17, 25-15, 26-24. With the loss, the Sharks fall to 6-6 overall (GNAC, 1-2), while the Wildcats, the first place team in the conference, improve to 8-9 (GNAC, 5-0).

  • Simmons Volleyball Defeated By Salve Regina, 3-0

    The Simmons College volleyball team fell to Salve Regina, 3-0, by scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-21 on Monday evening. With the loss, the Sharks fall to 4-5 overall.
  • Simmons Volleyball Splits Conference Tri-Match

    The Simmons College volleyball team split a tri-meet vs. Norwich University and Suffolk University in Northfield, Vt. on Saturday. The Sharks fell to Norwich 3-0, by scores of 25-18, 25-14 and 28-26. In their second match of the day, Simmons defeated Suffolk 3-1, by scores of 25-23, 28-26, 19-25, 25-20. With the split the Sharks move to 4-4 overall (GNAC, 1-1).
  • Volleyball Defeats Becker College, 3-0

    Simmons Volleyball shut out Becker College Tuesday night in a 3-0 win. The Sharks controlled all three games, with final scores of 25-14, 25-20, 25-19.
  • Volleyball Triumphs Over Maine Maritime, 3-1

    Simmons Volleyball bounced back from a loss earlier in the week to UMass Boston, and came home with a win Saturday against Maine Maritime Academy, 3-1.
  • Arena Digs Deep, Sharks Lose to UMass-Boston, 3-0

    Simmons Volleyball came up short in Tuesday night’s 3-0 loss to UMass-Boston, despite the efforts of junior outside hitter Candyce Arena (Brookline, MA), who finished with a match-high 10 digs, as well as four kills and an ace.

    The Simmons Volleyball squad is gearing up for their second season under Head Coach Jason Conetta. The Sharks closed out the 2007 season with an 8-14 overall record that featured a young squad with just two returners, and a lot of potential.
