Simmons Volleyball picked up two wins against Daniel Webster and Castleton in Nashua, NH on Saturday.

The Sharks defeated Daniel Webster 3-1 in a roller coaster of four sets (25-18, 25-8, 27-25, 25-7). Simmons won the first match, but faltered in game two, losing 25-8. The Sharks rallied and dug in to win the next two in a row.

Katie Fionte (Andover, MA) tallied up her first collegiate career double double with 11 kills and 11 digs. Jessica Hambleton (Methuen, MA) was steady on defense with 27 digs, while Amanda Weaver (Eaton, OH) paced the Sharks offense with 26 assists. Sophomore Nicky Loring (Derry, NH) was a spark on the court, tallying 7 kills on 17 attempts.

"The second set was a rude awakening for the team," said Head Coach Jason Conetta. "As a very young team, we need to keep our guard up at all times. In game three Katie Fionte took matters into her own hand and banged away a few important kills, and this finally fired up the Sharks."

The Sharks then faced off with Castleton, and defeated the Spartans 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-20). Weaver and Rosie Ferreira (Wassenaar, Netherlands) paced the offense with a combined 20 assists for the match, while Fionte was again a force tallying 10 kills to go along with 5 digs and 4 aces. Chelsea Smith (Manchester, NH) and Hambleton combined for 18 digs in the match.

"It was a solid team performance," said Conetta. "Everyone contributed to the win."

Simmons will return to the court on Wednesday, October 1, as they face Johnson and Wales at home at 7:00pm.
