Sharks Sweep Tri-Match With Albertus Magnus and Pine Manor

Simmons Volleyball shut out Becker College Tuesday night in a 3-0 win. The Sharks controlled all three games, with final scores of 25-14, 25-20, 25-19.

Freshman volleyball player Meaghan Flynn was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week of Oct. 6. She helped the Sharks to a 3-0, GNAC 2-0 record with wins over Newbury, Albertus Magnus and Pine Manor. 

Freshman Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) recorded a team-high 12 kills, but it was not enough as the Simmons volleyball team fell to Emerson, 3-2, by scores of 22-25, 25-20, 11-25, 25-12 and 15-7 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Sharks fall to 11-7 overall, GNAC, 4-3, while the Lions improve to 13-8 overall, GNAC 6-1.

Freshman outside hitter Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) recorded a combined 24 kills, 16 service aces and 15 digs in two matches as the Simmons volleyball team defeated conference foes Albertus Magnus, 3-0, by scores of 25-23, 25-13 and 25-10, and Pine Manor, 3-0, by scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-18 on Sunday afternoon in New Haven, Conn. at the Cosgrove Athletic Center.  The Sharks improve to 10-6, GNAC 4-2.

In the victory over Albertus Magnus, freshman Rose Ferreira (Wassenaar, Netherlands) tallied a team-high 16 assists.  Junior libero Jess Hambleton (Methuen, Mass.) led Simmons with eight digs, while Flynn registered 14 kills and eight services aces.

"This was a great way to start up the day as the Sharks came out for each match with determination and showed great poise on the court at all times," said Head Coach Jason Conetta. 

In Simmons' second match of the day, Flynn led the Sharks with 13 digs, 10 kills and eight service aces.  Junior setter Amanda Weaver (Eaton, Ohio) was credited with 27 assists and nine digs.  Flynn and Sara Stewart (Laconia, N.H.) were both strong at the net combining for four blocks. 

"I'm extremely proud of the way we have been playing, and with the next few weeks with some tough opponents ahead of us, the Sharks will be ready to continue their performance and improve as a team," said Conetta.

The Sharks return to action on Wednesday, October 15, when they host Lesley University in a non-conference match at the Holmes Sports Center at 7:00 p.m.

Simmons extended their winning streak to four games, with three of those wins coming over conference opponents.
The Sharks own a 10-6 overall record and 4-2 GNAC Conference record, marking the best start for the volleyball program since 2000.
