Simmons Volleyball Splits Conference Tri-Match

The Simmons College volleyball team split a tri-meet vs. Norwich University and Suffolk University in Northfield, Vt. on Saturday.  The Sharks fell to Norwich 3-0, by scores of 25-18, 25-14 and 28-26.  In their second match of the day, Simmons defeated Suffolk 3-1, by scores of 25-23, 28-26, 19-25, 25-20. With the split the Sharks move to 4-4 overall (GNAC, 1-1).

Freshman outside hitter Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) led the Sharks with 25 kills and 26 digs on the day. Sophomore Nicky Loring (Derry, N.H.) helped spark the Simmons offense especially in the second game tallying 16 kills and 3 digs in both contests.

Junior transfer Amanda Weaver (Eaton, Ohio) has recorded double-digit assists in her last eight matches, 28 vs. Norwich, 34 vs. Suffolk . Sophomore libero Chelsea Smith (Manchester, N.H.) was extremely defensive minded tallying 22 digs on the day. 

Match Notes:
Meaghan Flynn
tallied 14 kills, a team high in the match against Norwich.  Flynn also recorded a team high 19 digs against Suffolk
Amanda Weaver compiled a team high 34 assists against Suffolk
Chelsea Smith registered 14 digs against Suffolk

The Sharks return to action on Monday, September. 22, when they travel to Newport, R.I. to face Salve Regina University at 7:00 p.m.
