Volleyball Downs Lesley, 3-2

Simmons Volleyball picked up two wins against Daniel Webster and Castleton in Nashua, NH on Saturday.

Freshmen Kate Fionte (Andover, Mass.) and Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) each registered double-doubles as the Simmons volleyball team extended their win streak to five, defeating Lesley, 3-2, by scores of 25-16, 25-27, 18-25, 25-12 and 15-11 in non-conference action, on Wednesday night at the Holmes Sports Center.  With the win, the Sharks improve to an 11-6 overall record, while the Lynx fall to 4-9.

Simmons looked extremely confident in the first game as they easily won 25-16.  However, the second and third games proved to be the opposite, as the Sharks appeared to lose the killer instinct that helped them in game one and dropped the next two sets.  However, freshman Sara Stewart (Laconia, N.H.) came off the bench and started game four with a very important kill and block that helped rally Simmons as the Sharks never looked back, winning the final two games, 25-12, 15-11.

Flynn tallied a team high 14 kills and also earned double digits in digs with 11.  Fionte added 11 kills and 11 digs.  Sophomore Taylor Pederson (San Antonio, Texas) and freshman Krista Evans (Florence, Ala.) combined for 16 kills and five digs.

Junior Amanda Weaver (Eaton, Ohio) dished out a game-high 38 assists.  Weaver also added 12 digs to give her the double-double.

Junior captain Jessica Hambleton (Methuen, Mass) had 19 digs as four Simmons players had double digits in digs on the evening.
