Volleyball Triumphs Over Maine Maritime, 3-1

Simmons Volleyball bounced back from a loss earlier in the week to UMass Boston, and came home with a win Saturday against Maine Maritime Academy, 3-1.

Simmons Volleyball bounced back from a loss earlier in the week to UMass Boston, and came home with a win Saturday against Maine Maritime Academy, 3-1.

The Sharks lost the first game 23-25, but dug in to take the next three sets in 32-30, 26-24, 25-22.

"Freshman Krista Evans (Florence, Ala.) was outstanding on the right side," said Head Coach Jason Conetta. Evans led the Shark attack with 18 kills on 37 attempts with only 9 errors.

Amanda Weaver was everywhere at once, picking up 41 assists. Junior Captain Jessica Hambleton (Methuen, Mass.) was a presence in the back, tallying 25 digs, and going 22 for 23 in serve receives with only 1 error. Junior Captain Candyce Arena (Brookline, Mass.)-- 6 kills-- and freshman Katie Fionte (Andover, Mass.)—7 kills-- were a consistent presence on the left side.

"Sophomore Taylor Pederson (San Antonio, Texas) proved why she's called The Wall, tallying 7 solo blocks and assisting 2 more," said Conetta. Pederson also recorded 9 kills in the victory for the Sharks.

"The all-around effort today gives the team the momentum they need going into a difficult week."

Simmons Volleyball will face Becker College at home on Tuesday, September 16 at 7:00pm.
