After winning the most games in Simmons Volleyball history the Sharks volleyball program has made history yet again. Conference officials announced this week that freshman outside hitter Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and was selected to the All-Conference Second Team, marking the first time in program history that a player has claimed GNAC Rookie of the Year honors. Sophomore middle hitter Shamika Johnson (Springfield, Mass.) was selected as Simmons? Sportsmanship Award honoree.

Simmons College freshman Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week of October 12, the GNAC announced on Wednesday. Flynn had outstanding performances in games last week against Lesley University and Emerson College.

"Meaghan's outstanding performance has made her a threat in the GNAC this season. To see an athlete finish a game with a triple-double really speaks for her determination on the court. It is extremely difficult to achieve a triple double in a 6-2 or 4-2 offense, but in a 5-1 offense it's a rare occurrence," said Head Coach Jason Conetta. "Meaghan is determined to continue to improve on the court and help the Sharks make a run at the championship in the GNAC division this season."

Flynn and the Sharks went 1-1 last week, picking up a 3-2 win over Lesley and a 3-2 loss to Emerson. Flynn had dominating performances in both games, totaling 26 kills, 30 digs and 15 service aces for the week. In the win against Lesley, she picked up a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs. Against Emerson, Flynn recorded the first triple-double of her collegiate career, and the first for the Sharks this season. She had 12 kills, 15 service aces and 19 digs.

The Sharks will next travel to face off with Wentworth Institute of Technology on Thursday, October 23 at 7:00pm.
