  • Tennis Earns ITA All-Academic Team Award; Johnson, Medici Named Scholar Athletes

    TEMPE, Ariz. - The Simmons College women's tennis team received the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team award, while sophomore Michelle Medici (South Portland, Maine) and first year Marissa Johnson (Norwell, Mass.) each earned Scholar-Athlete recognition, it was announced by the ITA.

    BOSTON, Mass. - The Simmons College women's tennis team was defeated by visiting Endicott College, 9-0, this afternoon at Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks conclude their season with a 7-10 record, while the Gulls close out their slate with a 12-7 mark.

    BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons College women's tennis team was defeated by visiting Bentley University, 9-0, this morning in a dual-match at the Daly Tennis Complex in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks fall to 7-9 on the season, while the Falcons improve to 15-9 on the season in their final dual match of the year.

The Sharks fall to 7-8 on the season, while the Lyons improve to 8-8.

    WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College’s Jessica Schroedl (Staatsburg, N.Y.) was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference First Team Singles, while Nickie Nguyen (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam/Saint Joseph Preparatory (Mass.)) was tabbed a GNAC Second Team Singles selection it was announced today by the league.

    WINCHESTER, Mass. - The second-seeded Simmons College women's tennis team's eight-year win streak at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship came to an end following a 5-1 loss to top-seeded Johnson & Wales University this afternoon at the Winchester Indoor Lawn Tennis Center in Winchester, Mass. The Sharks fall to 7-6 on the season, while the Wildcats win their fourth straight match to improve to 13-2.

The Sharks have won six of their last seven matches and improve to 6-5 overall, including 5-1 in league play, while the AMCATS fall to 0-9 and 0-5.

The Sharks improve to 4-5 overall, including 3-1 in league play, while the Falcons fall to 4-4 and 2-2.

    RIVERSIDE, R.I. - The Simmons College women's tennis team was beaten by host Johnson & Wales University this afternoon, 9-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference dual match at Centre Court in Riverside, R.I. The regular-season loss is the first for the Sharks vs. a GNAC opponent since October 13, 2007 when they fell to Suffolk University and snaps a streak of 60 regular-season conference wins and 76 consecutive victories, including post-season play, over league opponents.

    HARTFORD, Conn. - The Simmons College women's tennis team opened the Great Northeast Athletic Conference slate with a 7-2 victory over host University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) this afternoon in Hartford, Conn. The Sharks improve to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in league play to extend their regular-season win streak over GNAC opponents to 59. The Blue Jays fall to 1-2, 0-1.

The Sharks fall to 0-4 on the season, while the Mules improve to 2-0 with their second match of the day. The match followed the college's Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, which officially opened the Daly Athletics Complex this morning.

The Sharks fall to 0-1 on the season, while the Hawks improve to 1-0. The contest was the season opener for both teams and the first collegiate contest of any kind played at the Daly complex.
