Tennis Blanks Mount Ida, 9-0

BOSTON, Mass. ? Three players were double winners for the Simmons College women?s tennis team in a 9-0 victory over visiting Mount Ida College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest on Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 4-5 overall and 3-1 in league play, while the Mustangs fall to 1-7 and 1-3.

BOSTON, Mass. – Three players were double winners for the Simmons College women's tennis team in a 9-0 victory over visiting Mount Ida College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest on Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 4-5 overall and 3-1 in league play, while the Mustangs fall to 1-7 and 1-3. 

First year Marissa Johnson (Norwell, Mass.) combined with junior Mary Matthews (Wakefield, R.I.) to earn an 8-2 victory at number one doubles for Simmons over the Mount Ida duo of senior Katlyn Jesse (Marshfield, Mass.) and junior Rebecca Levy (Plymouth, Mass.). Johnson and Matthews each won their respective singles matches as well. Johnson won a 6-0, 1-0 (retired) decision over Jesse at number two to give the Sharks the fifth and deciding point, while Matthews did not drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at fifth singles over Mustangs' sophomore Hannah Bassett (Needham, Mass.). 

Junior Olivia Lakes (Dorchester, Mass.) was also a double-winner for Simmons, pairing with first year Grace Hylan (Brooklin, Maine) at second doubles for an 8-1 win over junior Yuliana Chairez (Waltham, Mass.) and first year Amanda Garner (Coventry, R.I.). Lakes cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory for the Sharks at number three singles over Chairez. First year Jessica Schroedl (Staatsburg, N.Y.) earned a 6-1, 6-2 win for Simmons at first singles over Levy, while Sharks' sophomore Michelle Medici (South Portland, Maine) blanked Garner at fourth singles, 6-0, 6-0. 

Simmons will be in action on Saturday, October 8 when it heads to New Haven, Conn. to take on GNAC foe Albertus Magnus College at 1:00 p.m., while Mount Ida travels to Hartford, Conn. for a 12:00 p.m. match against University of Saint Joseph (Conn.).
