Tennis Closes Out Fall Season, Falling to Regis In GNAC Semifinals

BRIGHTON, Mass. – No. 2 Simmons tennis' (5-9) season came to a close on Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 3 Regis College in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Semifinals.

The Pride jumped out to an early lead, taking the first two doubles matches. However, the Sharks third doubles tandem of senior Sara Fucillo and junior Emily Lopez knocked off Sophi Machado and Akshita Duvvuri, 8-2, to head to singles only trailing by one.  

In singles, Regis extended its lead to 3-1 with a fourth set victory, before Kiana Thompson won put the Pride one victory away from head back to the championship match with a win in first singles. They sealed the match with Harmony Lopez defeating Emily Lopez in third single, 6-4, 6-1. 

SIMMONS NOTES

  • Senior Sara Fucillo won the first set of fifth singles and was up 4-0 in the second set when the match was decided.
  • First-year Emma Parsons won the first set of sixth singles, 6-0, and was leading Duvvuri, 6-5 in the second set.
