Schroedl, Nguyen Named to GNAC Women's Tennis All-Conference Team

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons College?s Jessica Schroedl (Staatsburg, N.Y.) was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference First Team Singles, while Nickie Nguyen (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam/Saint Joseph Preparatory (Mass.)) was tabbed a GNAC Second Team Singles selection it was announced today by the league.

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College's Jessica Schroedl (Staatsburg, N.Y.) was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference First Team Singles, while Nickie Nguyen (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam/Saint Joseph Preparatory (Mass.)) was tabbed a GNAC Second Team Singles selection it was announced today by the league. 

Schroedl played all of her matches at first singles for the Sharks and posted a 3-3 singles record in conference play as part of an overall 4-11 singles mark for the fall season. She enjoyed a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Rebecca Mauri of University of Saint Joseph on September 17. The first year later posted back-to-back conference wins over Mount Ida College's Rebecca Levy, 6-1, 6-2, while defeating Zaida Velazco of Albertus Magnus College, 6-2, 6-1 on October 7-8. The Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School product also added a 3-2 record in doubles action against GNAC opponents and was 5-10 for the season against all foes at number one doubles. Schroedl earned league recognition early in her first year of collegiate competition, being named the GNAC Rookie of the Week for the week of September 12-18. 

Nguyen registered a 2-2 record in singles action vs. league rivals and posted an overall record of 4-9 at number two singles. The rookie earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Saint Joseph's Lucy Roberge on September 17 and was the victor over Johanna Dean of Anna Maria College, 6-3, 6-1, on October 10. A graduate of Saint Joseph Preparatory in Cambridge, Mass., Nguyen helped Simmons to a 5-2 victory in the GNAC Championship Tournament semifinals with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Suffolk University's Elena Cisneros Garci on October 22. The first year also owned a 3-9 mark at number two doubles play this season for the Sharks. 

Simmons finished its fall season with a 7-6 record and advanced to the GNAC Championship for the 13th straight year, before bowing to Johnson & Wales University, 5-1, on October 23. The Sharks will return to the court on Sunday, March 26 when they head to Northampton, Mass. to take on Smith College in a 12:00 p.m. match.
