Tennis Falls to Endicott, 9-0, in Season Finale

BOSTON, Mass. - The Simmons College women's tennis team was defeated by visiting Endicott College, 9-0, this afternoon at Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks conclude their season with a 7-10 record, while the Gulls close out their slate with a 12-7 mark.

BOSTON, Mass. - The Simmons College women's tennis team was defeated by visiting Endicott College, 9-0, this afternoon at Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks conclude their season with a 7-10 record, while the Gulls close out their slate with a 12-7 mark.

Simmons was led by first year Nickie Nguyen (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam/St. Joseph Prep (Mass.)), who won four games in a 6-4, 6-0 loss at first singles to Endicott sophomore Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.). Barnett also combined with classmate Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.) to take down Nguyen and Sharks first year Marissa Johnson (Norwell, Mass.) at first doubles, 8-6, in pro-set form. Fitzgibbons was also a winner in singles play for the Gulls, posting a 6-0, 6-1 effort at number two over Johnson. 

Sophomore Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.) dropped just one game between singles and doubles play for Endicott on the afternoon. The second-year player won at third singles with a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Simmons sophomore Michelle Medici (South Portland, Maine) and helped sophomore Margot Andreasen (Portland, Maine) to an 8-1 triumph at number two doubles over the Sharks tandem of junior Olivia Lakes (Dorchester, Mass.) and sophomore Paola Rios (Miami, Fla.). Andreasen defeated Lakes at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-2 for her second win of the day. 

Sophomore Alexi Losano (Saugus, Mass.) was also a double-winner for the Gulls, winning at number six singles over Simmons sophomore Laura Plaza (Mexico City, Mexico/The Woodlands (Texas), 6-1, 6-1. Losano teamed with sophomore Alexandra Barmore (Southington, Conn.) for an 8-1 victory at third doubles over Plaza and Medici. Sophomore Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.) picked up the other win at singles play for the visitors, blanking Rios, 6-0, 6-0.
