Sharks Pass Skills to Boston YouthJune 01, 2009When Simmons Lacrosse finished their season, the Sharks athletes put down their books and picked up their sticks to run a lacrosse clinic in conjunction with MetroLacrosse for more than 60 girls on Saturday, May 9. Established in 2000, MetroLacrosse is a non-profit organization in Boston that “uses lacrosse to inspire personal, athletic, and educational success” among more than 700 youth and teens across Boston and Chelsea.

Simmons Lacrosse 2009 Season In ReviewMay 13, 2009Simmons Lacrosse, the ninth varsity sport to be added to the Sharks roster, wrapped up its inaugural season in April under first year Head Coach Kate Leonard. The team finished the season with a 2-4 Great Northeast Athletic Conference record, and a 3-8 overall record.

Five Lacrosse Players Earn GNAC All-Conference HonorsApril 27, 2009Five Sharks Lacrosse players earned 2009 All-Conference honors from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, in the Simmons lacrosse program’s first year of competition. Sophomore attacker Natalie Stever (Chagrin Falls. Ohio), freshman midfielder Lee Sutherland (Tuftonboro, N.H.), freshman defenseman Marissa Games (Newburyport, Mass.) and sophomore defenseman Kayla Tirrell (Lincoln, R.I.) all made the Second Team, while senior midfielder Heather Lowe (Woolwich, Maine) was given a spot on the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Lacrosse’s Damrell Receives Alumnae Honor AwardApril 24, 2009Simmons Lacrosse senior Freya Damrell (Georgetown, Maine) was given the Alumnae Honor Award on Wednesday evening. Damrell, a member of the Simmons Honors Program, will graduate in May with a bachelor of arts in International Relations and French and a 3.95 cumulative GPA.

Sharks Fall to Amcats, 12-10April 18, 2009Simmons Lacrosse fell to Anna Maria College on Saturday, 12-10. The Sharks celebrated Senior Day for the first graduating class of Simmons’ Lacrosse program: Nat West, Mariel Friedman, Heather Lowe, Hannah Bushway and Freya Damrell. With the loss, the Sharks record stands at 3-7 overall, 2-4 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

Sharks Deterred by Engineers, 20-2April 08, 2009The Sharks took to the field on Tuesday afternoon in Cambridge, Mass. after recording a 2-0 week, but were unable to move the ball from the Simmons defensive zone and fell to MIT, 20-2. With the loss, Simmons falls to 3-4 overall, 2-2 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

Lacrosse Triumphs Over Pine Manor, 21-12March 30, 2009Simmons Lacrosse won their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest of the season against Pine Manor College, 21-12. The Sharks advance to 2-3 overall and 1-3 GNAC, while the Gators fall to 1-3 overall, 0-2 GNAC.

Lacrosse 2009 Season PreviewMarch 04, 2009Simmons Lacrosse, the ninth varsity sport to be added to the Department of Athletics, will begin its inaugural season in spring 2009, led by Head Coach Kate Leonard. The team’s first year of competition will be focused on building the Simmons Lacrosse program. The roster is a collection of familiar fall sport faces, along with new talent from the college’s undergraduate pool.

Lacrosse Sends Holiday Letters to SoldiersDecember 11, 2008Simmons Lacrosse, the newest addition to Sharks Athletics, sponsored a Letters to Soldiers event in the Fens on Friday, December 5 and Monday, December 8. The team provided crafts materials and postage for members of the Simmons community to send cards to troops overseas for the holidays.

Kate Leonard Named Head Field Hockey and Lacrosse Coach at SimmonsJune 27, 2008Simmons College Athletic Director Ali Kantor has announced the appointment of Kate Leonard as the head field hockey/lacrosse coach at Simmons College. She becomes the first lacrosse coach in Sharks history as Simmons will begin its inaugural season in the Spring of 2009.
