Simmons Lacrosse senior Freya Damrell (Georgetown, Maine) was given the Alumnae Honor Award on Wednesday evening. Damrell, a member of the Simmons Honors Program, will graduate in May with a bachelor of arts in International Relations and French and a 3.95 cumulative GPA.

The Alumnae Honor Award was established by the Simmons College Alumnae Association in 1911 as the Alumnae Scholars Award, and has been presented annually ever since. Renamed the Alumnae Honor Award in 1930, this award is given to the graduating senior who combines scholarship, participation in student activities and contributions to college life in a way that exemplifies the general all-around excellence of an "ideal" Simmons College student.

Damrell spent her junior year studying abroad in Sweet Briar College's program in Paris, in addition to taking an internship with France's leading political party.

Amy Klotz '96, President of the Simmons Alumnae Association, shared the praise of Damrell's professors, and lauded her accomplishments as an undergraduate. "Without question, she is well poised for success. Her ability to excel in foreign languages combined with her deep understanding of international relations truly shows that she is representative of a global Simmons."

This spring, Damrell added a varsity sport to her busy schedule, joining the innagural season of the Simmons Lacrosse program, the newest addition to the Department of Athletics' nine varsity teams.

"On the field, Freya is fast and smart," said Head Coach Kate Leonard. "She worked very hard all season to improve her skills and understanding of the game, and she was an essential part of our success as a first-year team. This student is a confident, quiet player who leads by example and is a kind, supportive, understanding teammate."
