Simmons Lacrosse, the newest addition to Sharks Athletics, sponsored a Letters to Soldiers event in the Fens on Friday, December 5 and Monday, December 8. The team provided crafts materials and postage for members of the Simmons community to send cards to troops overseas for the holidays.

The Sharks collected over thirty handmade holiday, New Years and Thank You cards to send to soldiers currently stationed in Iraq. Several lacrosse players have family members serving overseas.

"Participating in this event really touched back home for me," said junior Jen Szkolt.  "Having my brother currently be overseas, I'm all about supporting our troops in any way I can. I really appreciate all of those who took the time to stop by and make a card!"

For Head Coach Kate Leonard, the Letters to Soldiers event was a way to take time from team fundraising to help her athletes think about others and to give back. "It was a simple, fun way to give back to the Simmons community and offer something to troops overseas who do so much for us. It was great to have lacrosse team members take the time to give to a bigger cause," said Leonard.
