Lacrosse Returns To Their Winning Ways with Victory over Anna Maria

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons lacrosse (8-8, 6-4 GNAC returned their winning ways with a convincing, 16-1, victory over Anna Maria College (3-9, 2-7 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) North Division action on Tuesday evening.

One minute into the contest junior Frida Turriza put Simmons in front 1-0 burying her team-leading 48th goal of the season as the water began to fill with Sharks. Moments later senior Julia Chausse connected with sophomore Campbell Crane for the second goal before slipping a pass to graduate senior Riley Wasiuk to put the Sharks up 3-0. 

Simmons kept up the offensive pressure. Turriza recorded back-to-back goals within in a minute of play to increase the lead to five. With two minutes to play in the half, Crane added her before Turriza recorded her fourth goal of the quarter to end the period with a 7-0 Sharks lead.

The tandem of junior Kat Wood and Chausse opened the second quarter. From behind the net, Wood found Chausse attacking the from the front side less than three minutes in to extend the lead to eight. It remained an eight-point game until the final minutes of the half. Senior Maggie Callendar took advantage of a player-up opportunity and slipped a shot over the right shoulder of the Anna Maria goalie for squads ninth goal of the game. Turriza capped off a 10-goal first half for the with her fifth goal of the game.  

 

When the teams returned to the field at the start of the second half, senior attacker Cameron Richards got into the offense with her 16th goal of the season. The Amcats took advantage of Sharks card broke up the shutout with their first goal of the game four minutes into the quarter. But first-year Lauren Krupnikoff responded and got the goal right back with a free position goal two minutes later as Simmons headed into the final period of play.

Early in the final quarter, Chausse ran along the baseline before flipping the ball to wide open graduate senior Emily Duffley. Duffley made it look easy as, all in one motion, she caught Chausse's pass then drilled into the back of the goal for the 13th goal of the night. Three minutes later, Duffley notche her third goal of the season to put Simmons up 14-0.

With just over five minutes to play, Krupnikoff added to her third quarter goal with an assist, finding junior Maddie Desimio-Maloney. Two minutes later, Desimio-Maloney connected with senior captain Christina Ferrari for her first collegiate career goal.
