  • Sharks Receive 2011-2012 GNAC Academic All-Conference Honors

    BOSTON, Mass. -- The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) honored 618 student athletes from 14 institutions on its 2011-2012 All-Academic Team announced this afternoon. Forty-five Simmons athletes received the honor, with representation from all eight varsity programs sponsored by the GNAC.

Wheeler was also named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week Tuesday for her stellar performance in net for Simmons.

    BOSTON, Mass. – Sharks sophomore Desh Perera (Reading, Mass.) scored twice to lead the Simmons soccer team to a 4-0 shutout win against the Mount Ida College Mustangs in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Sharks move to 6-7-2 overall and 5-4-2 in the conference. The Mustangs fall to 2-12 overall and 1-10 in conference play.

Sharks goalkeeper Ashley Wheeler (Nashua, N.H.) and the Simmons defense stalled the high-octane Norwich offense that was averaging 4.67 goals per game coming into Wednesday’s match.

    Nashua, N.H. – The Simmons Sharks made an early goal stand up as they nip the Rivier College Raiders, 1-0 in GNAC Women's Soccer action. The Sharks (3-5 overall, 2-2 GNAC) scored the only goal just 1:12 into the game. Simmons sophomore Desh Perera (Reading, Mass.) redirected a shot from Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, N.H.), which was able to sneak past Rivier goalkeeper Christine Surber (Langdon, NH).

    BOSTON, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus Falcons edged out the Simmons Sharks 2-1 in a GNAC conference thriller Wednesday night at The Winsor School fields. The game was tied at one until the 82nd minute when Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.) bounced a shot past Sharks keeper Ashley Wheeler (Nashua, N.H.) to take the lead.

    BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons Soccer team fell 1-0 to the Saint Joseph College (Conn.) Blue Jays Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play at The Winsor School fields in Boston, Mass. The fast-paced game was even for most of the 90 minutes until Blue Jays’ Patricia Nolan (Portland, Conn.) scored in the 58th minute in what would be the eventual game winning goal.

    PAXTON, Mass. – Sophomore Jennie Holloway (Hardwick, VT) scored two first half goals as the Simmons Sharks women’s soccer team defeated conference opponent Anna Maria College, 8-0, at AMCAT Field on Wednesday afternoon. The win improves the Sharks to 2-3, (1-0 GNAC) on the season, while the AMCATS fall to 0-5 (0-2 GNAC) overall.

    TROY, N.Y. – Simmons College lost 3-0 on the second day of the Rensselaer Invitational at East Campus Stadium to 22nd-ranked Union College. The Dutchwomen had goals from three different scorers and senior goalie Mia Simone recorded her third shutout of the season. With the win, Union improves to 4-0-0 overall, while the Sharks slip to 1-3-0 on the season.
  • Women’s Soccer Defeated by RPI, 4-2

    TROY, N.Y. – Simmons College fell to RPI 4-2, this afternoon in the Rensselaer Invitational at East Campus Stadium. Rensselaer freshman Taylor Korytko netted the eventual game-winning goal as four different players found the back of the net for the RPI women’s soccer team. With the win, the Engineers improve to 1-2-1 on the season, while the Sharks fall to 1-2.
  • Live Stats and Video Streaming Available For Simmons Soccer This Weekend

    The Simmons Soccer team will travel to Troy, N.Y. this weekend to compete in the RPI Invitational with Union College, Buffalo State University, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at the East Campus Stadium. The tournament hosts will provide live stats for all four games of the tournament as well as live video pay-per-view for the Sharks game against RPI on Saturday, September 10 at 3:00 p.m. The Sharks face Union College on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
  • Simmons Tops Western New England College In First Win

    SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Junior midfielder Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, NH) had a goal and three assists to lead the Simmons women's soccer team to a 4-2 victory over Western New England in a non-conference match Tuesday (Sept. 6) at rainy Surprenant Field. This was the first win of the season for the Sharks who are now 1-1. The Golden Bears fall to 0-4.

    The Sharks are eager to embark on the 2011 season after a challenging fall in 2010. While remaining competitive in every contest, the team fell short in the final minutes in several games, which kept them out of post-season play. The team graduated seven seniors all of whom were integral players and contributors to the program’s success. Their talent and leadership will be missed, but the opportunity to have fresh faces and talent on the field is sure to keep the Sharks competitive this season.
