BOSTON, Mass. – Simmons senior goalkeeper Ashley Wheeler (Nashua, N.H.) was named ECAC Division III Soccer Defensive Player of the Week announced today. Wheeler was also named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week Tuesday for her stellar performance in net for Simmons.

Wheeler and the Sharks posted two shutout wins against conference opponents Emerson College 2-0 and a 1-0 win over #2 ranked Johnson and Wales University, when the Sharks scored in the 90th minute of play to claim the victory.

With these two wins, the Sharks solidified a spot in the GNAC playoffs. Wheeler has recorded seven shutouts in 16 games during the 2011 season, with a 0.827 save percentage, which ranks her 102nd of all Division III soccer goalkeepers.

The Sharks finish the regular season tomorrow evening at home against Wellesley College at 7:00 p.m.
