Great Northeast Athletic Conference Names Four Sharks to Soccer All-Conference Teams

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Soccer was honored with four All-Conference selections as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced its All-Conference selections Tuesday morning.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Soccer was honored with four All-Conference selections as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced its All-Conference selections Tuesday morning.

Junior Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, N.H.) was named to the All-Conference First Team for the second straight year, as she started and played in all 18 games at midfield for the Sharks. Beauchamp scored three goals and added five assists for 11 points, second highest on the team.

Sophomore Katie McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine) was honored as an All-Conference Second Team selection for her stellar defensive play this season. McCarthy started all 18 games for the Sharks and contributed to an impressive eight shutouts during the team's 2011 campaign.

Leading scorer sophomore Desh Perera (Reading, Mass.) and senior goalkeeper Ashley Wheeler (Nashua, N.H.) were each named to the All-Conference Third Team. Perera lead all Sharks with seven goals and one assist for 15 points, including three game winning goals. Wheeler posted a 0.884 save percentage including eight shutouts in 18 games for an outstanding season for the senior. Wheeler was named GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week and ECAC Defensive Player of the Week on October 25th for a two-shutout win week for the Sharks.

Simmons finished the 2011 season 7-4-3 overall and 6-4-2 in conference play.
