BOSTON, Mass. – Simmons Soccer fell short to the MIT Engineers Thursday evening (Sept. 1) in their home opener at The Winsor School Fields by a score of 3-1 in non-conference play.

The Engineers took control early with an unassisted goal by Samantha Fleischmann (Eastchester, N.Y.) at 7:49. The Sharks responded with tenacious play in the midfield by juniors Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, N.H.) and Ally Ayotte (Litchfield, N.H.). With nine shots on goal in the first half, the Sharks continued to pressure the Engineers' defense, producing quality shots on goal.

Simmons freshman Keri Acheson (Peabody, Mass.) connected on a cross from Desh Perera (Reading, Mass.), slipping the ball past the MIT goalkeeper at 32:54 for her first collegiate goal, which tied the score at one. But MIT struck again before the half was over on a goal by Allison Park (Irvine, Calif.).

The second half was filled with consistent and matched play by both teams, with hard-earned offensive drives and noteworthy saves by both goalkeepers. The Engineers scored once more on a free kick by Andrea Park (Irvine, Calif.) to end the game.

The Sharks will travel to Western New England College on Tuesday, September 6th at 7:00 p.m. for another non-conference match.
