  • Sharks Earn 2010-11 GNAC Academic All-Conference Honors

    The Great Northeast Athletic Conference recognized 598 student-athletes from 16 league sports on the 2010-11 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team. 46 Simmons athletes received the honor, and all seven of the Simmons varsity programs sponsored by the GNAC were represented on this year’s Academic All-Conference Team.

    Simmons Basketball closes out the 2010-11 season with a 9-14 overall record, and a 4-8 Great Northeast Athletic Conference record. After qualifying for the conference tournament for the past nine seasons, the Sharks failed to make the cut this year and enter the offseason resolved to work hard for next season.
  • Sharks Fall to Raiders, 55-53

    Simmons Basketball fell to Rivier College on Tuesday night, 55-53, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup at the Holmes Sports Center in their final game of the season. With the loss, Simmons drops to 9-14 overall (4-8 GNAC) while the Raiders improve to 6-17 (4-6 GNAC).
  • Sharks Top Falcons, 72-64

    Simmons Basketball used a late second half run to overcome Great Northeast Athletic Conference host Albertus Magnus College on Tuesday night. The Sharks employed a 6-0 run with less than two minutes to play to earn the hard-fought 72-64 victory. With the win, Simmons improves to 9-12 (4-6 GNAC) and Albertus drops to 8-11 (2-6 GNAC).
  • Sharks Triumph Over Mustangs, 57-50

    Simmons Basketball recovered from a seven-point first half deficit for a 57-50 win over Great Northeast Athletic Conference visitor Mount Ida College on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Liz O’Connor (Milton, Mass.) went on a rampage in the final three minutes, scoring seven consecutive points to rally the Sharks and push them past the Mustangs. With the victory, Simmons advances to 8-11 on the season (3-5 GNAC), while Mount Ida falls to 5-12 overall (2-4 GNAC).
  • Saints Stop Sharks, 75-49

    Simmons Basketball was defeated by visiting Great Northeast Athletic Conference rival and Fenway neighbor Emmanuel College, 75-49, on Thursday night at the Holmes Sports Center. With the loss, Simmons drops to 2-5 GNAC, 7-11 overall, while Emmanuel improves to 5-0 in the conference and 9-7 overall.
  • Basketball Cruises to Win Over Gators, 75-45

    Simmons Basketball rolled to a 75-45 win over visiting Pine Manor College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup on Monday night. With the win, the Sharks improve to 7-8 overall (2-2 GNAC) while the Gators fall to 4-10 on the season (1-3 GNAC).

    Simmons Basketball was defeated by visiting Great Northeast Athletic Conference rival Norwich University, 68-64, on Saturday afternoon at the Holmes Sports Center. The hotly contested game saw double-doubles from two players on each team, with a fast pace and aggressive defense on both sides. With the loss, Simmons drops to 6-8 overall (1-2 GNAC) on the season, while Norwich moves to 10-4 overall (3-0 GNAC).

    Simmons Basketball rolled to a 47-39 win over visiting Lasell College in Thursday night’s Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup at the Holmes Sports Center. With the win, the Sharks advance to 6-7 (1-1 GNAC) while the Lasers fall to 1-12 (0-3 GNAC).

    Simmons Basketball was defeated by Johnson & Wales University, 58-52 in the Sharks’ Great Northeast Athletic Conference opener in Providence, R.I. on Tuesday evening. With the win, JWU is now 4-8 for the season and 1-0 in the GNAC while Simmons falls to 5-7 on the year, 0-1 in league play.
  • Sharks Defeat Lynx, 64-52

    Simmons Basketball broke their winless streak on Saturday with a 64-52 victory over non-conference visitors Lesley University. Junior Brittany Dolloff (Hollis, N.H.) scored a game-high 22 points and sophomore teammate Liz O’Connor (Milton, Mass.) had a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Sharks to the win. Simmons improves to 5-6 on the season (0-0 GNAC) while the Lynx drop to 2-7 with the loss.
  • Sharks Foiled by Red Hawks, 81-61

    Islamorada, Fla. – Simmons Basketball dropped their second game of the Key Largo Classic to Montclair State, 81-61, at Coral Shores High School on Sunday evening. Junior Brittany Dolloff (Hollis, N.H.) led all scoring with 22 points, but was unable to push the Sharks past the Red Hawks on the tournament’s second day. With the loss, Simmons drops to 4-6 on the season, while Montclair advances to 6-6 overall.
  • Sharks Fall to Daniel Webster in Key Largo Classic, 56-45

    Islamorada, FL – Simmons Basketball fell to Daniel Webster College, 56-45, in Saturday's opening round of the Key Largo Classic at Coral Shores High School. The Eagles' junior Vanessa Bosques notched a double double with a game-high 18 points and added 10 rebounds while fellow junior Sarah Paternostro added a game and career-high 12 rebounds, along with a game-best seven assists. With the win, Daniel Webster advances to 6-2 on the season while the Sharks drop to 4-5 with the loss.

    Simmons Basketball was defeated by non-conference visitor Roger Williams University, 75-49, on Saturday afternoon at the Holmes Sports Center. With the loss, Simmons falls to 4-4 on the season, while the Hawks advance to 6-2 overall.

    Simmons Basketball fell to UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday evening after the Corsairs raced out to a 16-point halftime lead and ultimately to the non-conference win. With the loss, Simmons falls to 4-3 on the season, while UMD advances to 2-6.

    The Sharks defeated Fenway neighbor Wheelock College, 67-41, on Monday night at the Holmes Sports Center. Simmons moves to 4-0 on the season with the win, while the Wildcats remained winless through three games.
  • Sharks Win Blazer Tip-Off Tournament

    Simmons Basketball’s Emily Thomas (Cheshire, Conn.) poured in a game-high 27 points and was named most valuable player to help the Sharks claim the 2010 Blazer Tip-Off women’s basketball tournament with a 66-62 victory on Saturday afternoon over host Elms College at Picknelly Arena. With the loss, Elms moves to 1-2 on the season while Simmons remains undefeated at 3-0 overall.

    Simmons Basketball is prepared for the 2010-11 season after finishing 2009-10 with an overall record of 17-9 (8-4 GNAC) and a trip to the conference semi-finals for only the second time in the history of the program. The Sharks were ranked nationally in a few categories: 11th in field goal defense, 23rd in free throw percentage (74%), 8th in 3-point field goal percentage defense and 31st in 3-point field goals per game.
