Sharks Top Falcons, 72-64

Simmons Basketball used a late second half run to overcome Great Northeast Athletic Conference host Albertus Magnus College on Tuesday night. The Sharks employed a 6-0 run with less than two minutes to play to earn the hard-fought 72-64 victory. With the win, Simmons improves to 9-12 (4-6 GNAC) and Albertus drops to 8-11 (2-6 GNAC).

The Sharks employed a 6-0 run with less than two minutes to play to earn the hard-fought 72-64 victory. With the win, Simmons improves to 9-12 (4-6 GNAC) and Albertus drops to 8-11 (2-6 GNAC).

The Falcons and Sharks battled all night, taking a 38-38 tie into halftime.

Simmons opened the second half on a 7-0 run which the Falcons fought back to within one possession midway through the second half.

Albertus received a balanced scoring attack with all five starters scoring in double digits. Senior forward Bianca Brown scored a team-high 16 points and had a game-high 12 rebounds, including three blocks. Junior forward Katelyn White added a double double of her own with 12 points and 11 rebounds to go along with four assists. Freshman guards Lindsay Karle and Lianna Carerro each scored 12 points and 13 points respectively. Sophomore guard Shanilya Bush added 11 points and a team high six assists.

Simmons received strong play from sophomore forward Emily Thomas (Cheshire, Conn.) as she scored a game-high 24 points and had a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with three blocks. Sophomore guard Liz O'Connor (Milton, Mass.) added 16 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks.

The Falcons travel to GNAC opponent Rivier College on Saturday at 1:00 pm, while Simmons travels to Saint Joseph's Maine for a 1:00pm contest on Saturday.
