Sharks Fall to Corsairs, 68-47

Simmons Basketball fell to UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday evening after the Corsairs raced out to a 16-point halftime lead and ultimately to the non-conference win. With the loss, Simmons falls to 4-3 on the season, while UMD advances to 2-6.

Simmons Basketball fell to UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday evening after the Corsairs raced out to a 16-point halftime lead and ultimately to the non-conference win. With the loss, Simmons falls to 4-3 on the season, while UMD advances to 2-6.

UMass Dartmouth led, 22-16 with 4:29 left in the first half before outscoring the Sharks, 12-2, before halftime to take a 34-18 lead into the intermission break. A 16-7 UMD run at the outset of the second half allowed the Corsairs to build a 50-23 advantage with 14:23 remaining. Simmons never got closer than 18 points after that.

Sophomore guard Liz O'Connor (Milton, Mass.) led Simmons with 14 points, while sophomore forward Emily Thomas (Cheshire, Conn.) added 13. Junior forward Alex Acloque (Randolph, Mass.) had nine rebounds for the Sharks.

Freshman forward Erika Bornemann led UMD with 17 points, senior forward Tashauna Ashmeade added 13, sophomore forward Colleen Moriarty posted her second consecutive double-double with 12 and an equal number of  rebounds, and freshman guard Megan also contributed 12 points.
 
Simmons will host Roger Williams Saturday, December 11 at 1:00pm, while UMass Dartmouth will host Western Connecticut State Saturday afternoon.
