  • Martensson Named to 2011 ECAC Lacrosse All-Star Team

    Simmons Lacrosse freshman Seneca Martensson (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) 2011 All-Star Second Team at the defender position. Martensson was the only Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) athlete to receive the All-Star honor.
  • Sharks Earn 2010-11 GNAC Academic All-Conference Honors

    The Great Northeast Athletic Conference recognized 598 student-athletes from 16 league sports on the 2010-11 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team. 46 Simmons athletes received the honor, and all seven of the Simmons varsity programs sponsored by the GNAC were represented on this year’s Academic All-Conference Team.
  • Lacrosse 2011 Season In Review

    Simmons College Lacrosse wrapped up the 2011 season this month after the Sharks earned their first-ever post-season bid to the ECAC tournament. Despite facing elimination after the semifinal round, the team’s performance capped a strong spring in which Simmons went 5-3 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. In the preseason coaches’ poll, Simmons was ranked 6th in the GNAC, and finished the regular season in 4th place with a record of 7-4. The 2011 season was the strongest for the team in just its third year as a varsity program, marking the first time Simmons Lacrosse qualified for the GNAC Tournament, as well as ECACs.
  • Sharks Selected to 2011 ECAC Lacrosse Championships at No. 4 Seed

    Simmons College Lacrosse has been selected to the 2011 ECAC Division III New England Women’s Lacrosse Championship, the ECAC announced on Monday. This will be the program’s first appearance in the postseason. The tournament is a four-team field with the semifinal games on Wednesday and the championship game on Saturday.
  • Two Sharks Receive GNAC All-Conference Lacrosse Honors

    Simmons Lacrosse freshman Seneca Martensson (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was named to the 2011 Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Conference First Team and freshman Rachel Wallace (Braintree, Mass.) was given a spot on the Second Team.
  • Sharks Fall to Mustangs, 9-8, End Tournament Bid

    Simmons Lacrosse came up one goal short in a hard fought GNAC quarterfinal match-up Wednesday night against the Mount Ida Mustangs. The loss brings the Sharks’ run in the conference postseason to an end, and they finish the season 7-5 overall (5-4 GNAC). Mount Ida improves to 9-8 overall (5-4 GNAC) as they advance to the GNAC Semifinals.
  • Sharks Set for GNAC Lacrosse Tournament

    Simmons Lacrosse will open the 2011 GNAC Tournament when they host a quarterfinal matchup against Mount Ida on Wednesday, April 27 at 7:00pm after a competitive 2011 women’s lacrosse season.
  • Sharks Defeat Saints, 17-7

    Simmons Lacrosse defeated Great Northeast Athletic Conference rival Emmanuel College, 17-7, in their final regular season match-up at home on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Sharks improve to 7-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play. The loss ends the season for the Saints who finished 3-9 overall and 2-7 in the GNAC. Saturday was also Senior Day for the Sharks. Lacrosse will graduate just two athletes from their young program this spring; Sarah Pontarelli (Naragansett, R.I.) and Jen Szkolt (Bondsville, Mass.).
  • Sharks Edge Mustangs, 9-8

    Simmons Lacrosse fought a close battle from the first draw to the final minute to come up with the 9-8 win over conference opponent Mount Ida on Wednesday night. With the victory, the Sharks improve to 6-2 overall (4-1 GNAC). The Mustangs are now 6-7 overall (2-3 GNAC) with the loss.

    Simmons Lacrosse fell to visiting Lasell College, 14-11, on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Sharks break their five-game win streak and fall to 5-2 overall, 3-1 GNAC, while Lasell improves to 7-4, 4-1 GNAC.
  • Sharks Battle Past Monks, 17-14

    Simmons Lacrosse earned a big win against Great Northeast Athletic Conference rival Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, 17-14, on Wednesday night to remain undefeated on their home field. The Sharks improve to 4-1 overall (2-0 GNAC). The loss is the first of the season for the Monks who are now 3-1 overall (1-1 GNAC).

    Simmons sophomore Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) was named Goalkeeper of the Week by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and Defensive Player of the Week by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) for the week ending March 27, 2011.
  • Sharks Overwhelm Blue Jays, 22-2

    Simmons Lacrosse defeated Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponent Saint Joseph College of Connecticut, 22-2, on Saturday afternoon to open conference play. With the win, the Sharks extend their win streak to three games and improve to 3-1 overall (1-0 GNAC). The loss is the second of the season for the Blue Jays who are now 0-2 overall and 0-1 in GNAC play.
  • Sharks Upset Framingham State, 11-7
    March 24, 2011
    Sophomore Rachel Wallace (Braintree, Mass.) scored five goals including the game-winner in the second half to lift the Simmons College Lacrosse to an 11-7 non-conference win over host Framingham State University Rams on Wednesday. The game was the Rams’ season and home opener as they are now 0-1 on the year, while the Sharks improve to 2-1 on the season with the victory.
  • Simmons Overpowers Anna Maria, 19-4, in Home Opener

    Simmons Lacrosse defeated Anna Maria 19-4 in their non-conference home opener on Monday night. The Sharks allowed only 13 shots from the Amcats, improving to 1-1 on the season with the win. With the loss, AMC drops to 0-3 on the season.
  • Sharks Drop Season Opener to Wellesley, 17-2

    Simmons Lacrosse was defeated by Wellesley College, 17-2, in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue held Simmons to just nine total shots en route to victory, and remain a perfect 4-0 on the season.

    Simmons Lacrosse is gearing up for their third season of varsity status under first year Head Coach Amanda Maxwell. In 2010, the Sharks achieved a 6-6 overall record and went 4-4 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. In 2011, Simmons aims to make the conference tournament by improving their win tally, and meeting the team’s competitive potential in each game.

    The Great Northeast Athletic Conference recognized 530 student-athletes from 15 league sports on the 2010 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team. 40 Simmons athletes received the honor, and all seven of the Simmons varsity programs sponsored by the GNAC were represented on this year’s Academic All-Conference Team.
  • Arpé Joins Simmons Athletics as Head Field Hockey and Lacrosse Coach

    Amanda Arpé enters her first season as the Head Coach of the Simmons Field Hockey and Lacrosse programs. Arpé joins the Simmons Athletics staff after one year as the Assistant Lacrosse coach at Archbishop Williams High School, and one year as Head Coach of Field Hockey and Lacrosse at Mashpee High School. At Mashpee, Arpé led the Field Hockey team to a 10-3-5 record and the first round of the South Division II tournament, and produced four South Shore All Stars. Arpé also coached the Lacrosse team to a 7-6 record, the first winning season in the program’s history, and coached two All Stars.
