  • Field Hockey Battles Husson on Senior Day
    October 27, 2009
    Simmons Field Hockey faced Husson University on Sunday. The Sharks battled back from a 3-0 deficit in the first half to tie the game 3-3 in the waning minutes, but the Eagles found the back of the Simmons box just in time to win the contest, 4-3. With the loss, Simmons ends their season with a 1-5 North Atlantic Conference record. The day also saw a celebration for seniors Jen Szkolt (Bondsville, Mass.), Maggie Weeks (Melvin Village, N.H.), and Emily Sypher (Orono, Maine). Sypher scored two goals and had one assist on the day for Simmons.
  • Sharks Press NAC Leader St. Joe's Maine Into Overtime, Fall 3-2

    Simmons Field Hockey fell to North Atlantic Conference leader St. Joseph’s College of Maine on Saturday, 3-2. The Sharks fought back from a 2-1 deficit to bring the Monks to overtime but came up short in the end, with a final score of 3-2 on the day.
  • Field Hockey Earns Conference Win Over Rivier, 5-1

    Simmons Field Hockey earned their first North Atlantic Conference victory over Rivier College, 5-1, on Saturday. Both teams started the day winless in conference play and with 3 remaining conference games for each team, both needed the victory to give themselves a chance at a playoff berth. With the win, Simmons is now 1-4 in the NAC, while Rivier falls to 0-5 in the NAC.
  • Tighe Earns NAC Rookie of the Week

    Simmons sophomore Katelyn Tighe (Easton, Mass.) has been named Field Hockey Rookie of the Week by the North Atlantic Conference.
  • Szkolt Named NAC Field Hockey Player of the Week

    Senior Field Hockey goalkeeper Jen Szkolt (Bondsville, Mass.) has been named the North Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, the NAC announced on Monday.
  • Field Hockey Opens NAC Schedule in Maine

    Simmons Field Hockey traveled to Maine for back-to-back North Atlantic Conference matches, the first conference games of the season for the Sharks. Simmons faced Thomas College on Saturday, and University of Maine – Farmington on Sunday. In both matches, Simmons started out strong, but ultimately fell to the Terriers 3-1, and to the Beavers 3-2. Field Hockey is now 1-8 overall, 0-2 in the NAC.
  • Field Hockey Victorious vs. Wheelock, 7-0
    September 19, 2009
    Simmons Field Hockey earned their first win of the season on Saturday against neighborhood rival Wheelock College, 7-0. Senior captain Emily Sypher (Orono, Maine) had two goals for the Sharks, and sophomore Lee Sutherland (Tuftonboro, N.H.) recorded two assists in the win. With the victory, Simmons improves to 1-6 overall, while Wheelock falls to 0-5 on the season.
  • Seahawks Best Simmons, 5-1

    Simmons Field Hockey fell to Salve Regina Thursday night, 5-1. Senior captain Emily Sypher (Orono, Maine) scored the lone goal for the Sharks, assisted by sophomore teammate Katelyn Tighe (Easton, Mass.). With the loss, the Sharks stand at 0-5 overall, 0-0 within the North Atlantic Conference. With the victory, the Seahawks improve to 3-3 on the season.
  • Field Hockey Defeated by the Lyons, 4-1

    Simmons Field Hockey and Mount Holyoke endured wet weather in the Lyons’ defeat of the Sharks in Boston on Saturday, 4-1. Simmons played an aggressive first half, but was outshot by the Lyons 26-9, and in shots on goal 12-3. The day’s highlight for the Sharks was a Christine Lowery (Wilder, Vt.) goal from a Lee Sutherland (Tuftonboro, N.H.) assist just 45 seconds into the second half.
  • Sharks Field Hockey Falls to MIT, 9-0

    Simmons Field Hockey lost to MIT on Thursday evening, as the Sharks were shut out by the Engineers for a final score of 9-0. The Sharks fall to 0-4 overall on the season, while MIT improves to 5-0.
  • Field Hockey Falls to Babson in Season Opener, 8-0

    Simmons Field Hockey opened the season at home on Tuesday night, falling to a strong Babson squad, 8-0. The Sharks offense was led by sophomore Lee Sutherland (Tuftonboro, N.H.), and backed by defenders Maggie Weeks (Melvin Village, N.H.) and Nicole Morrison (Stoughton, Mass.).
  • Field Hockey 2009 Season Preview

    Simmons Field Hockey will embark on the 2009 season with many new and old faces, ready to face the North Atlantic Conference competition. The Sharks finished the 2008 season with a 5-13 overall record, recording multiple one-goal losses on close calls throughout the fall. Head Coach Kate Leonard and the Sharks will look to turn those tight games into wins this season.
