Sharks Field Hockey Falls to MIT, 9-0

Simmons Field Hockey lost to MIT on Thursday evening, as the Sharks were shut out by the Engineers for a final score of 9-0. The Sharks fall to 0-4 overall on the season, while MIT improves to 5-0.

MIT controlled the ball for most of the game, outshooting the Sharks 33-6, while also holding an 8-3 advantage in penalty corners. Freshman goalkeeper Molly Maidman (West Hartford, Conn.) stopped eight shots for Simmons. Senior Emily Sypher (Orono, Maine) had two shots on goal for the Sharks.

"We played another tough NEWMAC team today in a very young and strong MIT team," said Leonard. "Nicole Morrison played a fabulous game, giving us two defensive saves and smart recovery defense. Lee Sutherland was outstanding for us on transitions and offense, continually hustling for the ball and creating opportunities. Brigid Rushe had some moments of brilliance on offense as well."

Simmons will face Mount Holyoke College at home on Saturday, September 12 at 1:00pm.
