  • Field Hockey Receives NFHCA Team Academic Award, Nine Athletes Named to Academic Squad

    Simmons Field Hockey received the NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Team Award for 2008. Nine athletes were also named to the 2008 NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Squad. The Sharks achieved a team GPA of 3.36 in the fall semester, surpassing the 3.0 or higher award requisite. Each athlete named to the Academic Squad earned a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or better.
  • Sypher and Szkolt Named to NAC Field Hockey All-Academic Team

    Two Simmons Field Hockey players have been named to the North Atlantic Conference Fall 2008 All-Academic Team. Junior forward Emily Sypher (Orono, Maine) and Junior goalkeeper Jen Szkolt (Bondsville, Mass.) both received the honor. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached junior academic standing, have competed a minimum two years in their sport with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50.

  • Two Field Hockey Players Garner All-NAC Honors

    Two Simmons field hockey players received honors from the North Atlantic Confrence, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon. Freshman back Kelly Garrity (Reading, Mass.) was named to the All-Conference Second Team and junior forward Emily Sypher (Orono, Maine) garnered All-Conference Honorable Mention honors.

    Simmons College has been awarded the North Atlantic Conference’s Team Sportsmanship Award for field hockey, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. The honor marks the first time in the program’s history.

    The Simmons field hockey team fell to conference foe St. Joseph’s (Maine), 5-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Lakeside Field. With the loss, the Sharks fall to 5-12, NAC 0-5 while the Monks improve to 11-4, NAC 4-1.

    Freshman Lee Sutherland (Tuftonboro, N.H.) scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Simmons field hockey team to a 3-1 victory over non-conference foe Wheelock on Tuesday evening at the Winsor School Field. With the win, the Sharks improve to 5-11, while the Wildcats fall to 3-12.
  • Field Hockey Drops 2-0 Decision to Lasell

    Lasell’s Caitlyn Walker and Tia Pratt each scored a goal lifting the Lasers to a 2-0 North Atlantic Conference victory against Simmons on Thursday afternoon at Grellier Field. The Sharks fall to 4-11, NAC 0-4, while Lasell improved to 6-7, NAC 2-2.
  • Field Hockey Defeats Elms, 4-0

    Senior Katie Bonney (Auburn, ME) scored two goals in her final home game leading the Simmons Field Hockey team to a 4-0 win over non-conference foe Elms College on Tuesday evening. The Sharks improve to 4-10, while the Blazers fall to 3-10 on the season.
  • Field Hockey Loses to Castleton State, 6-1

    Carolyn Griggs and Kayla Blank both scored hat tricks carrying Castleton State to a 6-1 victory over Simmons Saturday afternoon. The Sharks fall to 3-10 overall, NAC 0-3 while Castleton State improves to 9-5, NAC 3-1.

    Framingham State’s Kali Barrett scored two goals and Kristen Sacco added another to lead the Rams field hockey team to a 3-0 non-conference win over Simmons on Thursday evening. Simmons falls to 3-9 on the season, while Framingham State improves to 6-4.

    Senior Katie Bonney (Auburn, Maine) scored two goals to lead the Simmons field hockey team to a 4-0 win over Regis College in a non-conference match-up on Sunday afternoon. The Sharks have now won their past two games and improve to 3-8 overall, while the Pride fall to 0-13 on the season.

    Senior captain Katie Bonney (Auburn, Maine) scored the game-winning goal as the Simmons College field hockey team edged Western New England College, 2-1, in non-league action on Thursday evening at the Winsor School Field. With the win, the Sharks improve to 2-8 on the season while WNEC drops to 0-9.

    Sophomore Kara Masse (Portland, Maine) scored the game-winning goal as the Simmons College field hockey team edged Becker, 2-1, in a non-conference contest on Monday night. With the win, the Sharks record their first victory of the season, bringing them to 1-6 overall, while Becker falls to 3-3.

    Field Hockey fell to MIT 3-0 at home Thursday night at The Winsor School Field. The Engineers capitalized on Simmons’ slow start and were able to score twice within the first six minutes despite strong defensive play by freshman Kelly Garrity (Reading, MA).
  • Simeoli Makes 15 Saves in Field Hockey Loss to Babson, 8-0

    Simmons Field Hockey endured a tough loss to nationally ranked Babson College Tuesday night, with a final score of 8-0. Freshman goalkeeper Mary Simeoli (Westfield, MA) was able to make 15 saves against a fast, aggressive Babson offence that racked up 23 shots on goal, to Simmons’ 0.
  • Field Hockey Falls to Wheaton

    Simmons Field Hockey opened their season at home Tuesday night with a 3-1 loss to Wheaton College. Wheaton’s Alisa Ardito (Branford, CT) scored twice within the first seven minutes of the first half. Simmons regrouped, and freshman Lee Sutherland (Wolfeboro, NH) scored, with an assist from junior forward Emily Sypher (Orono, ME).
  • Field Hockey 2008 Season Preview

    Simmons Field Hockey welcomes first-year Head Coach Kate Leonard as the program nears the start of the 2008 season. In 2007, the Sharks ended the season with a record of 4-4 in the North Atlantic Conference, and 7-11 overall. The team accomplished this despite some setbacks, including the lack of a true goalkeeper and a young team.
  • Kate Leonard Named Head Field Hockey and Lacrosse Coach at Simmons

    Simmons College Athletic Director Ali Kantor has announced the appointment of Kate Leonard as the head field hockey/lacrosse coach at Simmons College. She becomes the first lacrosse coach in Sharks history as Simmons will begin its inaugural season in the Spring of 2009.
