  • Sharks Earn 2010-11 GNAC Academic All-Conference Honors

    The Great Northeast Athletic Conference recognized 598 student-athletes from 16 league sports on the 2010-11 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team. 46 Simmons athletes received the honor, and all seven of the Simmons varsity programs sponsored by the GNAC were represented on this year’s Academic All-Conference Team.

    Simmons Soccer received the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for the 2009-10 academic year, the NSCAA announced recently.
  • Two Sharks Named to GNAC All-Conference Team

    Sophomore midfielder Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, N.H.) and senior defender Katie Foley (Rochester, N.H.) were named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference 2010 All-Conference First Team, following the conclusion of the fall season.
  • Soccer 2010 Season Review

    Simmons Soccer wrapped up their fall 2010 campaign in late October, after a challenging season that tested the squad’s toughness and adaptability. Four of seven seniors suffered career-ending injuries, pushing freshmen and sophomores to take larger roles on the team throughout the Sharks’ schedule. Simmons persevered through the obstacles, finishing 6-10-1 overall, and 5-7-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
  • Wildcats Nab Sharks in Double Overtime, 3-2

    Simmons Soccer fell to Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Johnson and Wales, 3-2, in a double overtime decision on Monday night. Two goals from sophomore Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, N.H.) were not enough to lift the Sharks over the visitors in two regular half’s and two wildly contested overtime periods. With the loss, Simmons falls to 5-8-1 (4-5 GNAC) while JWU advances to 6-7 (4-3 GNAC).
  • Sharks Sink Monks, 2-0

    Simmons College (5-7-1, 4-4 GNAC) scored two first-half goals to nip Saint Joseph’s Maine (6-4, 4-4 GNAC) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women’s soccer contest Saturday afternoon at Westerlea Way Field.
  • Sharks Shut Out by Saints, 4-0

    Simmons Soccer was defeated by Great Northeast Athletic Conference rival Emmanuel College Wednesday night in a 4-0 shutout on Roberto Clemente Field. The regular season game was a rematch of last season’s GNAC Championship battle, which featured the Sharks upsetting the Saints, 2-1, in double overtime. Emmanuel emerged on top in this go-round by scoring four unanswered goals in the first half en route to the victory. Emmanuel now stands at 5-8 on the season and 3-4 in GNAC play. The loss dropped Simmons to 4-7-1 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
  • Sharks Topped by Cadets, 4-1

    Simmons Soccer dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup to Norwich University, 4-1, at home on Tuesday night. The Sharks outshot the Cadets 27-16, but were unable to find the back of the visitor’s net in the often-physical matchup. With the loss, Simmons falls to 4-5-1 (3-2-0 GNAC) on the season, while Norwich advances to 6-3-0 (4-1-0 GNAC).
  • Sharks Hammer Gators, 9-1

    Simmons Soccer earned a decisive victory over visiting Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponent Pine Manor, 9-1, on Saturday at The Winsor School field. The Sharks (4-3-1, 3-1-0 GNAC) held the Gators (0-6-1, 0-4 GNAC) to just 10 shots, five of them on goal, while Simmons hammered the PMC net with 27 shots, 13 of them on goal.
  • Sharks Bite Mustangs, 1-0

    Senior Anna Stella (Sharon, Mass.) scored the only goal of the day to lift Simmons Soccer over Mount Ida College, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Simmons handed the Mustangs their fourth consecutive loss and third straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference defeat. The Sharks improve to 2-3-1 (1-1-0 GNAC), while the Mustangs fall to 1-4-1 overall (0-3-0 GNAC).

    Simmons Soccer fell to Suffolk University, 5-2, in their home and Great Northeast Athletic Conference opener on Wednesday night. With the loss, the Sharks stand at 1-3-1 on the season (0-1 GNAC), while the Rams improve to 2-1-1 (1-1 GNAC).
  • Soccer Competes at Wellesley Tournament

    Simmons Soccer settled for a draw with UMass Boston in Sunday’s 3-3 double-overtime contest. With the tie, UMass Boston stands at 2-1-1 on the year while the Sharks are now 1-2-1. Simmons outshot the Beacons, 22-20 on the match and 6-2 in the overtime sessions, but neither team could find the back of the net in the extra frames.

    Sophomore Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, N.H.) tallied the only goal of the game on a beautiful strike with five minutes remaining in the second half Tuesday evening as Simmons Soccer defeated Plymouth State University, 1-0, in non-conference women’s soccer action at Panther Field. With the win, Simmons advances to 1-1 on the season, while PSU drops to 0-2.
  • Soccer Drops Match to MIT, 2-0

    Simmons Soccer was shut out by the MIT Engineers on Saturday’s season opener, 2-0, at Roberts Field. The Engineers improved to 2-0-0 on the young season, while the Sharks dropped their first contest of 2010. Sharks sophomore keeper Ashley Donaghey (Framingham, Mass.) made nine saves over 90 minutes in the loss.

    Simmons Soccer is gearing up for the start of the 2010 fall season. Led by 2009 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Erica Mastrogiacomo, in her fifth year at the helm of the program, the Sharks expect another successful year after an 8-2-3 GNAC record and the 2009 GNAC Championship title. Simmons is hungry for another GNAC tournament win in 2010.
