Sharks Hammer Gators, 9-1

Simmons Soccer earned a decisive victory over visiting Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponent Pine Manor, 9-1, on Saturday at The Winsor School field. The Sharks (4-3-1, 3-1-0 GNAC) held the Gators (0-6-1, 0-4 GNAC) to just 10 shots, five of them on goal, while Simmons hammered the PMC net with 27 shots, 13 of them on goal.

The Sharks (4-3-1, 3-1-0 GNAC) held the Gators (0-6-1, 0-4 GNAC) to just 10 shots, five of them on goal, while Simmons hammered the PMC net with 27 shots, 13 of them on goal.

Simmons found the back of the PMC net six times in the first half, with freshman Amanda Brown (Raynham, Mass.) scoring at the 2:37, unassisted. Sophomore Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, N.H.) assisted the next two goals for Simmons, the first to sophomore Ally Ayotte (Litchfield, N.H.) and the second to senior Kate Barnard (Kingston, N.H.). Freshman Jennie Holloway (Hardwick, Vt.) and junior Chelsey Hersey (Newburyport, Mass.) closed out the first half scoring at 37:52 and 41:29, assisted by Brown and senior Lindsey Butler (South Weymouth, Mass.), respectively.

The second half followed with goals from Ayotte (unassisted), Holloway assisted by junior Mandy Walke (Danvers, Mass.), and Lian Atturio (Hanover, Mass.) assisted by Butler.

The Gators' lone goal came from a throw-in by PMC's Beth Deegan that rolled into the Simmons goal after a slip from keeper Ashley Donaghey (Framingham, Mass.). Donaghey played the full second half and made three saves, while sophomore keeper Ashley Wheeler (Nashua, N.H.) earned the win with 45 minutes in the first half with one save.

The Sharks will return to the field on Sunday, September 26 to take on the Judges of Brandeis University at 1pm, while Pine Manor will play Emerson College on Tuesday, September 28 at 3:30pm.
