Simmons Soccer settled for a draw with UMass Boston in Sunday's 3-3 double-overtime contest. With the tie, UMass Boston stands at 2-1-1 on the year while the Sharks are now 1-2-1. Simmons outshot the Beacons, 22-20 on the match and 6-2 in the overtime sessions, but neither team could find the back of the net in the extra frames.
Tayla Andrews' first score gave the Beacons a 2-0 lead only 3:10 into the match. The forward was able to find the back of the net after junior forward Julienne McCuish fired an initial shot on goal that landed on Andrews foot for her fourth goal of the campaign.
The Sharks battled back to even the score by halftime at 2-2. Senior forward Anna Stella (Sharon, Mass.) got Simmons on the board at the 26:22 mark with the a score from a diving header off of a corner kick taken by sophomore midfielder Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, N.H.) to make it, 2-1, UMass Boston. The Sharks tied the score with 12:17 remaining in the half off another set piece. Beauchamp placed an indirect kick deep inside the Beacons 18-yard box that found the foot of freshman midfielder Kathleen Sullivan (Lincoln, R.I.) for the goal.
UMass Boston was able to take the momentum back with Andrews second goal of the game coming on a penalty kick, 11:15 into the second stanza to put the Beacons on top, 3-2. Freshman forward Kelli Neville had beaten the Simmons backline with an open lane to the goal before being taken down in the box for the foul resulting in Andrews PK finish.
Simmons remained hungry for another goal and got it from sophomore forward Ally Ayotte (Litchfield, N.H.) 68:53 into the match off another Sharks corner kick. Beauchamp collected her third assist of the game, placing the corner to the Beacons nearside post before Ayotte connected on the one-time volley to the back of the net, evening the score at 3-3.
Sophomore keeper Ashley Donaghey (Framingham, Mass.) finished the game with six saves while UMass Boston freshman keeper Katie Coscia stopped a career-best 14 shots to help preserve the draw.
Simmons plays host to Suffolk University on Wednesday, September 15 in an 8:00pm tilt, while the Beacons are idle until Thursday, September 16 when they host Bridgewater State University in a 3:30pm match.

Simmons Soccer was defeated by St. Lawrence, 5-0, in the 2010 Wellesley Invitational opening match. The Saturday afternoon loss brought the Sharks to 1-2 and the Saints' record to 3-1.
Marcelle Justison picked up a goal at the 14-minute mark (assisted by Stephanie Sayward) as the Saints opened with an early 1-0 lead. Despite a 13-0 St. Lawrence edge in shots in the first half, the game remained 1-0 at the break.
St. Lawrence took control in the second half, as Erika Gobielle scored back-to-back goals to stretch the lead to 3-0. Gobrielle's first score, an unassisted tally came just under two minutes into the period, with the second coming two minutes later off of a pass from Justison. The Saints would add two more scores before time expired, as Julia Friesen and Louise Wheeler each contributed goals to make the final 5-0 in favor of St. Lawrence.
In net for St. Lawrence, Abby van Geldern picked up the shutout, remaining largely untested with one save. For Simmons, Chelsea Hersey (Newburyport, Mass.) launched the only shot on goal for the Sharks.
