Cross Country Closes out Season With Personal Bests at NCAA East Regionals

HOPKINTON, N.H. – Simmons cross country closed out the 2023 fall season at the NCAA East Regional Championships on Saturday afternoon. All seven runners ran lifetime bests as the Sharks, compiled their best race of the season, finishing one spot behind fellow GNAC runner-up Regis College. 

Junior Kaylah Schnitzer led the way in 142nd with a time of 26:57.2, recording the sixth-best finish amongst all GNAC competitors and fifth-best for a Simmons athlete at an NCAA Regional since 2019. Senior captain Sara Hornak followed up her all-conference performance from last week with another personal-best, finishing in 27:29.5. 

First-year Hannah Bergeron followed closely behind, crossing the line in 27:39.1. In placing 159th, Bergeron also recorded the second-highest finish by a Simmons first-year at an NCAA Regional since at least 2011.

OTHER SIMMONS RUNNERS

  • First-years Katie Repoli, Julia Pellegrino and Caroline Fleischhauer also cracked the top 200, running 30:18.7, 30:41.2, and 30:49.2, and earning the fourth, fifth, and sixth highest finishes by Simmons first years since 2015.
  • Sophomore Beth Pennington finished right on their heels in 31:32.7 to round out the Sharks' performances.
