Hornak Runs Fastest Time in Four Years at Franklin Park at the NEICAAA Championships

BOSTON, Mass. – Competing in a competitive field of runners across all three divisions at the 2023 New England Cross Country Championships, Simmons cross country continued to see improvements on the course on Saturday afternoon. 

Running a 7:35-minute mile, senior Sara Hornak led all Sharks runners with a season-best time of 23:37 and eclipsed the previous program's fastest time at the Franklin Park course. Sophomore Beth Pennington also saw her career best time drop by 40 seconds, crossing the finish line with a time of 27:11.8.

Additionally, first-year runner Neeva Manandhar clipped nearly 45 seconds off her previous life-time best. Pacing at 8:58, Manandhar posted a time of 27:03.2 and was the third Simmons runner to cross the finish line.

Just before Manandhar was fellow first-year Katie Repoli. Running at an 8:19 clip, Repoli was the second Shark to finish the 5K with a time of 25:54.2. 

OTHER SIMMONS RUNNERS

  • First-year Julia Pellegrino rounded out the Sharks runners at the meet, finishing with a time of 27:36.5.
