BOSTON – Simmons cross country opened the 2023-2024 season with the Suffolk Short Course 3K at Franklin Park on Friday morning.
Sophomore runner Beth Pennington bested her time from last year's meet by nearly 20 seconds. Averaging a nine-minute mile, Pennington crossed the finish line with a time of 17:15.6. It was 18 seconds quicker than last year's time.
First-year Hannah Bergeron led the Sharks, crossing the finish line just eight tenths of a second faster than teammate Sara Hornak. Running an eight-minute mile, Bergeron finished with a time of 15:03.1, while Hornak posted a time of 15:03.9.

- First-year Lily Men finished with a time of 17:00.8
- First-years Julia Pellegrino and Neeva Manandhar finished back-to-back with times of 17:16.9 and 17:38.3, respectively.
Simmons Highlights
- Sophomore Beth Pennington eclipsed previous best time at the Suffolk Short Course by 18 seconds, finishing in 17:15.6.
