MacLean Leads Cross Country at Roger Williams Invitational; Maloney Notches PR

BRISTOL, R.I. - Senior Kara MacLean (Braintree, Mass.) placed 25th and junior Kaitlyn Maloney (Amherst, N.H.) registered a personal record as two of 11 runners to better their respective times from last year's race, leading the Simmons College women's cross country team to a seventh-place showing this morning at the Roger Williams Invitational at Colt State Park in Bristol, R.I.

BRISTOL, R.I. - Senior Kara MacLean (Braintree, Mass.) placed 25th and junior Kaitlyn Maloney (Amherst, N.H.) registered a personal record as two of 11 runners to better their respective times from last year's race, leading the Simmons College women's cross country team to a seventh-place showing this morning at the Roger Williams Invitational at Colt State Park in Bristol, R.I.

Wellesley College tallied 29 points to win the women's five kilometer race, paced by individual champion Priyanka Fouda (Wellesley Hills, Mass.). The senior clocked in at 19:10.59. The Sharks finished with 202 points on the day.

MacLean bettered her time from last year by almost 26 seconds with a mark of 20:53.27. She was followed by sophomore transfer Allegra Egizi (Beverly, Mass.), who finished 36th overall with a time of 21:20.95. First year Samantha Jaffe (Fayetteville, N.Y.) placed 45th with a mark of 21:34.06. First year Emma Vagedes-Plavcan (Amherst, Mass.) became the third newcomer to finish among Simmons' top four with a time of 22:01.02 to take 62nd overall. Junior Sara Harland (Pembroke, Mass.) topped her time from last year by just over 98 seconds at 22:15.39 to finish 70th, while classmate Bethanie Royality-Lindman (Wakfield, R.I.) was 78th with a time of 22:26.87 to beat her time from a year ago by almost 24 ticks. Maloney turned in the only personal record time of the day for the Sharks, eclipsing her previous best by almost 25 seconds and surpassing her mark from last year by more than 80 seconds with a time of 23:08.54 to finish 97th.

Junior Madison Rivard (Sharon, Mass.) crossed the finish at 24:01.35 to better her time by 90 seconds from a year ago and place 130th, while senior Alicia Morales (Uxbridge, Mass.) clipped her previous best from last year by almost 20 seconds with a mark of 24:43.74 to finish 142nd. 

First year Carol Figueiredo (Norwood, Mass.) made her collegiate debut with a mark of 24:55.50 to place 144th and classmate Sarah Colbert (Lynnfield, Mass.) was just over 14 seconds behind in her first collegiate race to finish 152nd. First year Jess Politano (Holbrook, Mass.) also made her first college run and placed 158th on a time of 24:41.11. Junior Hannah Hast (Bow, N.H.) shaved almost 51 seconds off her effort from last season in Bristol with a time of 26:00.68 to come in 162nd, while senior Monica Khun (Phnom Penh, Cambodia/Lawrence HS (Mass.)) lowered her time in the race from last year by almost 44 seconds with a mark of 26:09.95 to finish 165th. Senior Cortney Hanrahan (Southampton, Mass.) improved by 2:02 from last year and owned a mark of 26:37.02 to place 173rd. First year Kathryn Nagle (Bangor, Maine) made her collegiate debut and placed 179th with a time of 26:51.90, while senior Marilyn Baremore (East Lyme, Conn.) made the biggest improvement from a year ago with a time of 27:15.97 to best her previous Bristol mark by almost 2:21. First year Michelle Medici (South Portland, Maine) also ran on the college circuit for the first time and clocked a 27:30.95 to finish 184th, while senior Colleen Dooley (Derry, N.H.) bested her mark from last season by almost 55 seconds at 28:40.14 to finish 188th.

Simmons will run again on Saturday, September 26 when it competes in the 46th Annual Codfish Bowl at historic Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. at 11:00 a.m.
