BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons College has named Brian Cunningham as Head Cross Country coach, announced by Director of Athletics, Ali Kantor. Cunningham is the second head coach since the program transitioned to varsity status in 2011.
Cunningham comes to Simmons after a successful career in long distance running. He served as the assistant men's and women's cross country and track and field coach at The College of William and Mary from 2003-2005, where he worked with middle distance runners and spent one year at The University of Texas-Pan American where he oversaw the team's distance and middle distance runners.
In addition to collegiate coaching, Cunningham has coached for the Cambridge Running Club and as a part of the PR Training Programs in Virginia, where he supervised various athlete groups training for competitions from 5k to 50miles in distance.
Cunningham ran professionally from 1999-2002 with FILA-USA. He received a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from The College of William and Mary and was named All-Conference in the 800m during his four-year career. Cunningham and his wife, Michelle, make their home in Tiverton, RI.
The Sharks open their 2013 season on Sept 7 at the Roger Williams Invitational.
